Hello,

I'm a 30 y.o. married female, considering relocating to Hyderabad from the US for a year or two. It's for a work assignment, so my company will help with apartment search, and that sort of thing. My husband and I will probably visit Hyderabad in the next month or two to see how we like things and get a feel for the place. I have a million questions about living in India, working in Hyderabad, and loads of other things, but figured I should introduce myself first

So... of the bat... any advice?

Yep. Read the Hyderabad section here, if not already done so.

And prepare for 45C temperature next summer , which means reliable power supply and airconditioning.

I think, to be clear, the Capt. means that's what you'd want to be looking for? Not that it would necessarily "mean" they will be there under such conditions.

I see the poster has started a (much) more extensive thread on their queries btw, maybe it's best if further advice were given there: http://www.indiamike.com/india/hyder...r-two-t108666/.

And, poster (RedHead), aside from the Hyderabad (sub-) forum here, there is also the Expats area, featuring a section on moving to Hyderabad (see on top of that page/ forum) specifically. But browse around some of those other "moving to..." forums as well, people moving to other cities will face many similar general issues.

Hello ReadHeadToIndia!!

Its really nice to see someone from Connecticut here! I've lived in CT (Hartford, Bristol and Shelton) for a long time myself - worked at Pitney Bowes near Stratford and went to school at the University of Hartford. I now live in San Francisco but am in Bangalore, India for a while for work and have a pretty good idea of Hyderabad as well. Feel free to write me...i am at ramtanuj at yahoo dot com...I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have!

Thanks!

Hey, thanks for the welcome
Definitely the Connecticut to Hyderabad weather difference is one of the bigger things on my mind. For example, today's high in my town is 61 degrees, and in Hyderabad 98 degrees.

Oh yeah absolutely...get set for a year long, Texas style summer - hot and dry!

I still have vivid memories of the snow and the storm when I left CT back in early 09, as a really bad winter was just getting started. Hyderabad is definitely a HUGE contrast. Actually, Bangalore in comparison is significantly cooler year round. On the minus side you'd need air conditioning almost all the time but on the plus side it means a respite from the harsh New England winters and the year-long possibility of outdoor barbeques instead of just the 4 or 5 months :-)). So don't forget to pack that grill!!
