Hi all Just found this place (which is going to be very useful for me in the coming weeks!)

Never been to India before! Just booked a flight from the UK to Chennai arriving in early March and will be cycling from there round the south coast and ending up in in Kochi, and finally a few days up in Munnar. 3 weeks in total.

I've booked all my accommodation in advance and plotted each day's route (following main roads mostly) and will be covering about 80 - 100 miles per day.

At the moment my main concern is how to get myself and my bike back from Kochi to Chennai - train or domestic flight? I'll probably post some enquiries in the relevant forums in days to come. If anyone can point me to the best places to post (especially for cycle touring) the would be really helpful.

Anyway, I'm getting quite excited and really looking forward to my trip.

Thanks Nick!

Not sure what to expect traffic-wise. Sadly there's no Street View on Google Maps for India to give me an idea of volume of traffic or road condition. I'll see how I get on on the main roads - if they prove to be terrible I'll try and switch to smaller roads.

Temperature wise, I'll be taking it easy for the first few days to acclimatise. I've toured in Sri Lanka and Thailand at similar times of year so should be OK.

It's more the traffic behaviour than the traffic density. Expect the worse! I don't know about Sri Lankan and Thai driving: maybe India won't be such a big shock to you after all.

Temperature is going to be in mid to high 30s and very humid. You're going to need gallons of water. But... you're not a beginner at tropical climates, so I guess you have an idea what it will be like.
