We are arriving by Jet Airways at 1030pm at the international airport. Our connecting flight is from the domestic airport at 635am. I have a few questions:

1. When I finish my immigration and customs, will there be a transfer desk to check in my luggage on my domestic flight?

2. Is there a Jet Airways transfer bus or an airport bus to take us to the domestic airport?

3. At what time should I take the transfer bus - as soon as I finish customs or nearer to my domestic flight time? Which airport is better to stay in? Can I get food at that time?

4. Since it is an 8 hour layover at night, would it be better to book a hotel to get a few hours of sleep? If so, what hotel do you recommend?

Thank you in advance for your replies.

You're best to give some idea of budget, there's many hotels close to either terminal, but they tend to be expensive, esp. as you'll maybe only get 4 hours in your room.

Is it your first time in India?

I ask because I could comfortable spend the 5-6 hours just sitting outside the terminal buildings watching the world go by, it's fascinating, always busy, and nice & warm.

Be warned, once you enter a terminal building, they don't allow you to leave.

Thank you for your reply. This is not my first time in India and I will be traveling with family (teens).
Budget is around $150 - can 4 stay in one room?

I doubt 4 could stay in a room; but for 150 you could get two rooms near the airports.

1. Yes. That desk will be very close to the place where you would be boarding the shuttle to domestic terminal (it is the same airport, just another entrance)
2. There will be an airport bus. I don't think Jet would have a separate transport, but if you are some sort of Privilege member, you might want to ask...
3. You may choose to take it as soon as you are done. There is nothing much to do sitting at the intl terminal. If anything it would be very crowded as many intl arrivals are at the same time during night... Of course, there isn't much to do at the domestic terminal either, but since you are in the departure area, it just 'feels' more spacious coming from the arrival zone... If you have an Indian sim, you can send an SMS & get a code to hook up to free wi-fi. Some of the food options are available only after security check, which would be allowed 1-2 hrs before departure.
4. No point in booking a room, as you never know how much time you really have at hand. I'd suggest playing it by the ear depending on when you land, how soon you are thru with immigration, baggage & customs, your domestic flight schedule (if revised). As a first option, try to arrange for a retiring room or dorm in the airport itself. Even otherwise, for 0635 flight, you need to check-in by 0550, so reach airport by 0530, so leave hotel by 0500, so start checking out by 0430, so wake up by 0400, so hardly any time left to really spend on the bed...
