late night flight connecting to domestic flight

I am travelling next week from Dubai to Mumbai and only arriving in Mumbai international airport at 2.55am on emirates. I am then connecting to a flight to kandla airport from Mumbai on Fly KF which leaves at 5.55am. I booked this way as I didn't want to spend the night at the airport and I reckon there is plenty of time to go through customs and cross over to the domestic terminal in time for the Kandla flight.

When I call King Fisher, they tell me it may be too tight and I need to land at least 6 hours to enable connection through customs and cross over and check in bags for the King fisher flight.

1.I need advice as to whether there is enough time to collect bags and cross over on time.

2. Are there options like transferring bags from the international to domestic King fisher and how do I do this.

3. Generally how busy and efficient is mumbai airport at that time.

4. What risk areas of my travel plan should I manage.

Cheers

3 hrs for intl to dom is just right, so you have very little margin. it might take about 1-1.5 hr to go thru immigration, get your luggage, cross customs, another 0.5-1hr to get on the shuttle & reach domestic terminal. there is a counter for domestic airlines near the shuttle boarding area - you can check in your baggage & yourself here while you wait. leave another 0.5 hr at the domestic terminal to go to the right gate & board the flight.

i would suggest checking the typical performance of the intl flight to see if there is a usual delay on landing - if so, i would be more cautious...

It depends on the date, day of the week, and loads to determine how much time it would take to reach the domestic terminal.

Of EK a.k.a Emirates top 20 flights with delays in the past two months, DXB-BOM is not listed.

Also one has to see what other flights precede Ek at 0200-0300 time slot. If 0255 is what EK considers wheel-down on the ground, and you are seated in last few rows, then expect about 15 minutes to get to the immigrations hall.

Depending on the previous loads, you could take between 3min-1 hour more. If it is raining.... carousel can get ikky. so optimistically give it one hour 25 minutes which gets you to 2:55 + 85 minutes = 4:20... If you baggage check, immediately; or if your Emirates+KingFisher is in the same PNR, you are likely to make it :)
