Those are good prices (with Emirates) Ed ... :)

My dates (April 2 - May 30 for a possible future trip) Man-Del, come up as over £700 return !!

your travel dates are in an expensive period. However I can see £411 return deals with Jet/KLM on skyscanner which is from opodo.

The journey out is a bit long but the one back is decent..

EK is £700 +[cry][cry][cry][cry] for these dates

However if you can fly out on 10th April and come back on 24th May then its £453 on Emirates with 40 kg luggage allowance via traveltrolley ( got this via skyscanner ) .

if booking on emirates also try to book a stopover at dubai ( if you want to visit ) . For most fares it may not increase the total fare and you get to visit another country.

Ex UK Emirates is often cheaper if you book via travel agents online. ( I search via skyscanner)

Even if prices are the same as the EK website you often get a better category of fare like a flex or flex plus ticket ( higher luggage allowance/ more miles earned/ free seat selection )via a travel agent. The only catch is that if you want to make changes before you start travelling you will have to sort it out with the travel agent. This can be a bit more difficult than dealing directly with emirates.

Gosh Mark, you seem to be going back and forth to India every few weeks! And why not! :D

My best local airport is Birmingham, and Emirates currently offer a couple of good flights from BHX on your dates for £469.

I travel to Birmingham International by train, I always get a cheaper train fare by booking to Birmingham New Street, then a seperate one to Birmingham International.

Split ticketing at work.Legal provided that the train you are travelling on stops at the stations that you are ticketed to(i.e you do not have to change trains provided the train stops at the spit ticket stations)

Kuwait Airways is offering a return FRA-DEL for €390 in February. This is the cheapest fare I have ever come across, though I am wary of Kuwait Airways as I once missed my connection and had to spend 24 hours at Kuwait.

I am not much of a drinker, but as far as I remember Kuwait airways is a dry flight.
Lord, Grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of those people I had to kill because they pissed me off.

That's OK by me as long as they keep the tomato-juice flowing.

Yes, indeed ... only been back (in uk) for a couple of weeks and it is cold & damp (!!), so I try to get away somewhere whenever I can, while I still can :)

@ ukdoctor ...

Haven’t actually used Opodo, but have seen those Jet Airways flights elsewhere ; funny, I usually try to buy direct from the airline if I can ... so was most interested to read your comments about buying through agents (have bought through : ticketstoindia , in the past ).

I'm finding a few 'slightly' cheaper flights at Jet Airways/Air India's own websites rather than Cleartrip. Will keep watching for now.
I don't fancy the stop overs Ed, and would rather get the flight over with quickly. You are right though, that's quite a nice amount to save and spend elsewhere :)

Just had a look at marktriggs TicketstoIndia, I think I used this company for my first trip...can't remember now, but some of the direct flight prices listed are okay.

I prefer to use the airline sites to actually book my flights, but usually try Opodo to get a "feel" for the fares offered from different airlines, and so "zero in" on what works for me.

I also used to buy direct always till a few years ago. However airlines frequently dump tickets via travel agents ( good if you are flying at a short notice / flexible travel ) and it can be sometimes half the price as from the airline website.

Last year I got a return to Delhi on Qatar airways for around £280 via an online travel agent.

The fare was still around £480 on the official website.

The only problem is that you have to go via the travel agent if you have to make any changes before you travel.

Once you have have flown the first sector the :control' of the ticket passes on to the airline and you can then contact the airline directly for making any changes ..

Booked!

Got the flight I wanted (the one I usually get) Air India. Nearly opted for Jet until I noticed there was no seat choice without spending another £20+ for each flight.

Flying out Sat 23 March, coming back Tue 30th April. - Was going to come back on the Monday, but opted for an early morning Tuesday flight instead, so got myself an extra day in Delhi at the end (Monday not being the best day to be in Delhi, but that's cool).

The cost? £491. (£624, £537 were the previous checks I did a few days ago). Can't see it dropping much further.

Nice one! Seems a good discount on the previous fares. Are you flying from Heathrow?

Just the e-visa to obtain now?

Oh God no. There's everything to sort out, I've not finished the end of my itinerary yet (2 weeks, but maybe most of it split between Jaipur & Varanasi). Still need to choose & book all my hotels, but that's the fun part though :) I need to start reading some reviews. looking at staying at a couple of places outside Jaipur - Maybe Dausa/Bassi area? and also west Jaipur, but that last option not looking likely.

I think I might be opting for the normal visa too, I'm hoping they will issue me a 12 month one as I want to go back to India in September (maybe).

Loads of 'expensive bits' to buy yet too, including a 2nd phone, maybe smaller suitcase, GoPro... :)

Cheers

First stayed there 30 years ago shortly after they opened, and visited again November last year with my tour group from Canada and Belgium. Everyone agreed it was one of the nicest places we stayed on the tour.

When you reserve or check-in, tell them JP from Canada recommended them.
It's all part of the adventure of travelling! cool:
