your drive sounds like a dream come true to me. How fortunate to be able to do that each month. wow! i wish i could sort something like that out with corbett from where i live.

How far is it from Bangalore to the forest check point? I am from Bangalore and could maybe try a trip sometime in May or maybe after monsoon in october?

how much does the night ride cost? also how long is it?

Sorry to ask you so many questions its just that i have not done a southern park yet and have heard some really bad stories. Ha!

cheers

Yes June might be start of Typical Wayanad / Coorg Monsoon . Normally From May 3rd week, Temperature drops and monsoon is suppose to set in by June 1st.

You can still do the boating in Pookot lake, Ask your cab driver to stop in Thamaraserry Ghat road (from where view of Kozhikode district will be interesting) and visit Chembara peak and Soochipara waterfalls . Also a Visit to Thirunelli temple and a safari to Tholpetty WLS is possible. Mostly if it rains very heavily, " Visit to Kuruwadweep island and a Safari to Tholpetty WLS" might be affected and all of the above tourist spots could be visited. As it's June 1 st week , it could be Ok !

You may avoid edakkal caves, Meenmutty waterfalls trekking , Pakshipasthalam Trekking etc as all of those will be fun and will be enjoyed if you are with a larger group .

Also get good Raincoats as umbrellas would not be effective in wayanad and coorg during monsoons.

Hope this helps. If you need more info, Please post.

Regards
Velu
Thanks a bunch, Velu

Here's the itinerary I got from Banasura:
Date of check-in: 4th June 2011
Date of check-out: 6th June 2011
Time of check-in: 12 P.M
Time of check-out: 11 A.M
Type of accommodation: Single cottage/Twin or Naalukettu room/Luxury room
Package rate: Rs. 14,499/-/Rs. 12499/Rs 11499 per couple for the 2 nights & 3 days package.
The rate includes accommodation , all
meals(breakfast, lunch & dinner only), all applicable taxes, one time head & shoulder therapy for two and one time speed boating*(subject to availability).

*Speed boating in Banasurasagar dam(5kms from the resort). Only the entrance ticket charges and speed boating charges will be borne by us and the conveyance to the dam will be in your own vehicle.

Since the booking is for June, we offer a discount of 10% on any of the above packages

Literally, there's no sight seeing included in the itinerary. I find it weird as I have to hire a cab to visit the places you have mentioned

Hmmm and even for 5 kms ride to the dam is chargeable etc is really surprising.

I did stayed only in "very much budget places" in wayanad and those recommendations might not work out for you as it will not have luxury or might not be suitable for honeymoon trip also.

May be do a search again in tripadvisor or alike or bargain with the same resort to include atleast 2 Half-day sight seeing .

Rates look toooo costly .

Hi Folks

This one park that did catch our eye.

The link already posted was a boon, it was http://touristdesk.in/tholpetty.htm

They are qutoing Rs5000 for a 2night stay with transport from Kochi.
Is Rs10,000 (accom and travel etc) a good price? Or would we be better arranging when we in Kochi?

As for seeing wildlife, if we do we do and if we don't then I'll still have visited somewhere I've never been before

cheers
best wishes
Marc & Karen

I haven't stayed there but they've got amazing reviews on tripadvisor. May be you could give a try. But I doubt if Tholpetty wildlife sanctuary is open for visitors these days. I was told by guys at Tamarind Thirunelly that it's closed. And if it's closed, I really doubt if you have other options out there.
