I would not count Ponmudi as a major tourist attraction but more like a getaway for the folks in Trivandrum on a short picnic. But then if you have not been to many hill stations, it is certainly worth a visit. On the way there is a stream running by which is a must stop. BUT let me also warn you that there can be sudden increase in the water level with no warning and many people are swept away here every year.

On the top of the ponmudi, there was only one guest house maintained by the KTDC for which you may need prior booking from TVM ( just incase it is full). But then again my knowledge is about a few years old and hence not sure if anything new has come up.

Restaurants suggestions - Panchali opposite attukal shopping complex in East Fort is my favourite. The is also a good palate at the Oasis food court in TRIDA complex at Kesavadasapuram ( a little away from city) but not very ethnic. In case you can splurge out a little extra, the restaurants at Muthoot plaza and Hotel Muscat are a good choice. For quick bites as good cafe option is Ambrosia near the Bakery Junction.

If you can tell me where you are staying, I can give even more suggestions as that is the city were I grew up Plus I have prepared/collated the official tourism guide to Trivandrum for the dept of tourism many long years back.

Hope you had a great time at ponmudie. My latest reports tell me that Trivandrum is quite hot and not much rains these days. So hoping that you managed to enjoy your trip. When you come back, please update here on your trip as well as the name of the sping on the way to the ponmudi (its golder or silent - valley)

Also please say where all you ate and the food recommendation

Trivendram pics

Hi thanks for the information.
Yafirst few days no rain,we desperately want to drench in the rain ,but rain came atlast. The weather is ok not very hot.

Well as i can say its IM'er trip,my other friends "sggal@IM"'usha@IM",we planned to explore waterfalls, not usual place .
But cant help it to go Kovalm,Varkala.Varkala is divine,as its moonsoon not much crowd whole beach is for us exculsive.
Padmanabhapuram palace,Kanyakumari we did one day trip.
Then we had been to Thirparappu water falls,
25km from Padmanabhapuram palace,from Kanyakumari its 60km.
There is one picturesque old Mahadeva temple.

We dint go to Ponmudi, but we went Kallaru (the one u mentioned ),water falls,
the falls name is "Meen mutti falls".We have to walk slippery path, its worth it .It took ,1.20 min to go up,return 1hr.
The road to Ponmudi is so beautiful. Its 40km from Trivandrum.

Food :
Trivandrum we tried Oasis food court ,at Kesavadasapuram ,as i stayed near. One thing about Kerala i noticed even small hotels has good food.
Onway to Kovalam ,other places we tried small Dabha like hotels, the food was very good .
Kanyakumari is food is ok ,had meals a Annapoorna.
Can check the pic here .

Kerala trip

Thanks a lot!!!!!

My house was on top of the red cliff in the photo'Varkala beach' !!!

This is the beach I explained it in my ‘beach's beach’ thread. Thanks for the picture and scratching my nostalgia.

The place has changed a lot, it was an extremely lonely beach

Thanks.Yes Ponmudi you can do as oneday trip from Trivendram.

Thirparappu is 25km from Padmanabhapuram palace, falls actually in TamilNadu state. There is no proper signboard, but if you ask direction villagers on the way helpful, they ready to tell direction.

The way to Thirparappu is beautiful country side, you cant help it to stop and enjoy the scenery .

Actually a good way to reach Thripparappu is by taking the bus in front of the Padmanabhapuram palace. Every 45- 60 mins there is a bus. So if you check the timings before entering the palace, you can come out of the palace, just in time for the bus and enjoy the leiasurly bus ride. (normally the bus is not crowded but no guarentees on that )

Many a times my Kanyakumari trip got cancelled cuz by the time we reach Marthandam (the detour junction to Padmanabhapuram palace) we change our mind to head towards Thripparappu.

And radz u said IM friends are not real freinds - sob sob sob

Thank you again for this suggestion: I will be in Trivandrum this december and would like to make this trip.
Just one more question: the waterfalls and the scenery will be the same also during this period?
