Before proceeding to Pench this year, I tried to get all the information about the place from this forum;Unfortunately none of the threads provided extensive information. I then sought the help of my colleague who resides in Mumbai,who arranged for a vehicle for the journey to and from Nagpur and assured of bookings for safari and accommodation through a local tour operator (agent). Now, I narrate the difficulties and my experiences of my visit in brief.
I boarded Nagpur Duronto at Mumbai CST on 5.3.15 at 20.15 hrs to reach Nagpur the next morning at 7.20 am; as scheduled all other members of my group was supposed to reach Nagpur from Kolkata by Gitanjali Exp. scheduled at about the same time. Accordingly, we met at Nagpur station on 6th Morning, contacted the vehicle owner over cell and boarded his Qualis for Pench.
My friend at Kolkata had booked accommodation at Kolitmaara Resort,Pench Tiger Reserve, through the online booking system of Maharashtra Eco Tourism;(Eco Huts-3rooms-Rs.1905/-in total for 1 day i.e. for 6.3.2015)(plus Rs885/- towards vehicle entry fee and visitors entry fee-@Rs400/- & Rs75/-(per head) respectively;we were 6 in all. Incidentally, he could not any provision for booking of accommodation at M.P.tourism website/s;hence such arrangements.
After we started our journey from Nagpur and after having a breakfast at a roadside dhaba (aluparatha & tea) we traversed quite a distance to find that we had crossed the road to Kolitmaara by about 30 Km.It was "Holi" and our driver advised us to proceed to Turia where accommodation had been subsequently made by the tour operator so that it would be convenient to join the safari the next morning. In fact, initially our plan was to take a break at Kolitmaara for lunch,safari by our own vehicle and then proceed for Turia in the evening; however for reasons obvious, we abandoned our plan, and proceeded for Turia.
It was a 100 KM drive from Nagpur Rly. station to our accommodation at Tiger Cubs Resorts at Khawasa, at a distance of 1 km from Turia Gate.We were allotted two huts side by side;they were basic (non-a.c.) with attached bath and privy.Three of us shared each hut having a double bed ,fair enough to accommodate. The tariff was Rs.1500/-per day/ per hut.
The tour operator met us in the evening and asked us to be ready by 4 am next morning so as to reach Karamajhiri Gate,70kms from Turia, by 6am
It was an open Gypsy and the weather was chilling;it was our first mistake being misdirected by the tour operator; we shivering in cold and blamed each other for having kept behind our Qualis at the resort. However, on reaching Karamjhiri gate, our papers for safari was verified at the gate; thereafter, we proceed our journey.
Two nos. of safari are conducted in two separate slots: 6am to 10.30 am;3pm to 6pm. during our safari during both slots we saw Tigers,wild boar, spotted deer, sambar, wild dog, nilgai,bison and different birds including peacocks ,hornbills ,whistling teels and indian roller.
Advice:
Safari Bookings should be done in advance at :http://www.mponline.gov.in/Portal/Se...st/Search.aspx ; Safari Charges for 6 in a gypsy is Rs.3380/-(including guide charge)/trip
Regarding govt.accomodation pl. visit : http://www.penchtiger.co.in/accommodation.html
accommodation should be booked after contacting by phone and application by e-mail/fax at the given address:
[Field Director,
Pench Tiger Reserve,Seoni M.P.
Phone no. 07692-223794, 222169;07692-223204(Fax)
Email: penchtr@bom6.vsnl.net.in;
Or,
Manager, Bison Retreat Rukhad, Dist Seoni,
Phone no. 07695-246429
Lokmat bhawan vardha Road Nagpur
Phone no. 0712-523374]

For booking car from Nagpur, Shri Vivek Desmukh,of Nagpur-Cell No.09423678262; he charged Rs.7000/- for his Qualis for 3 days(all inclusive)Nagpur-Pench-Nagpur;a perfect gentleman with pleasing personality;very helpful

It is advisable to avoid booking at the Maharashtra side,as sighting of wilds is very low;
there are numerous private hotels/resorts at Turia gate side;
Our accommodation at Tiger Cubs Resorts provided basic accomodation and very good food(as ordered); Contacts:Amit Deshpande-09372303779;07741986537;
Mahendra Shiv:09424939372; website:www.tigercubsresorts.com;
Suggestions:
If you wish to avoid the rush, go for accommodation of the forest department of M.P. at Karmajhiri gate.10 vehicles are allowed here in comparison to 51 at Turia.
There is a canteen of the forest dept. at Karmajhiri which provide meals; no need to carry ration;
Most of the accommodation at Karmajhiri is within the entry gate and in proximity of forest;
The third entry into Pench is at Gumtara gate ,is close to Karmajhiri;(so you get 2 options at Karmajhiri)
only disadvantage:No mobile connection/link is available at Karmajhiri; the forest office here is connected to Seoni office in Wireless mode;
In case you opt for Private accommodation stay at Turia Gate.It's expensive in comparison to govt.accommodation,but mobile connection is available.Also you get food of your choice.
Interestingly mobile link was available at different points within the Pench Reserve.
Route from Nagpur:
Nagpur-Khawasa-Suktara(NH 7)-Badalpur-Ghatkohna-Bhodki-Barelipar-Karmajhiri (135 Km)
Nagpur-Khawasa-Turia (85 Km)
One can visit Pench from Jabalpur too: Turia Gate is 215 Km; Karmajhiri Gate 195km(both,via Seoni).
Avoid tour operators for booking Safaris & Accommodation at Pench; they are mere touts and charge excessive amounts.
Book a vehicle from Nagpur to Pench and Back (as we did); safari to be done as per online booking with M.P.forest dept.as narrated herein above.

Park remains open from 1st November to 30th June only
Best time to visit- March to June
