enquiry about the reservation process for chapramari forest rest house
hi i am thinking of visiting chapramari in doers this april. i was hoping if someone could guide me to plan my trip for 2 nights 3 days in chapramari. i would also like to stay in chapramari forest rest house so please tell me how should i plan my trip. expecting quick replies.
Get down at Malbazar station(trains like the Kanchen Kanya ply along the Sealdah-Alipurduar line and Malbazar is en route). Hire a car at Malbazar to take you to Chapramari. However, bookings for the FRH have to be done well in advance as there are only 2 double bedded rooms available. Also, there is no electricity(depending on your preferences,it might be a bonus or a downer),and you will have to carry your own rations.
Its worth the trouble,though-the beautiful glade right in front of the bungalow, with an adjoining watchtower is enough to lift the tiresome spirits of the weary city-dweller. Sightings of elephants, gaur, deer and lots of interesting birds(i remember sighting over 20 Great Indian hornbills there) is virtually guaranteed. At times, rhinos from the adjoining Gorumara NP also pay the grasslands near the glade a visit. I also found Chapramari especially enjoyable bcoz it is not as often visited by noisy hordes of Bengali tourists.
The contact no. for booking the Chapramari forest bungalow is given in this link:

Hope you have an enjoyable trip!!!!

please tell me how did you book the frh. is it any how possible from kolkata??
A small correction. According to my information, there are two Railway Stations for Malbazar. Old one iscalled Malbazar and the new one is New Mal Junction. I think Kanchan Kanya Express stops at New Mal Junction and NOT at Malbazar.
@Ashishdas : Thank you for correcting me,and yes,you are right, the Kanchen Kanya does stop at New Mal and not at Malbazar.
@solitary soul : The details regarding whom to contact are given in the link i have posted...towards the left of the page under the heading "reservation".

I don't think advance booking for Gorumara is allowed. It is issued on "first-come-first-served" basis. I'm not sure but Permit Booking appears to be somewhat complicated process. For example, if you stay in WBFDC Murthi Bungalow (which is a Govt. property), you don't have to do anything; the Lodge authority would arrange booking for you. Similarly, if you stay in any of the Hotel/Resort at Lataguri (as we did), the Resort or Hotel boys would stand in the Que for you and get the permit. I have also seen people coming from Malbazar area on a day visit, standing in the Que and procuring the Permit themselves. This was the scenario when we visited there, don't know whether the system (as on date) has since been changed or not.
thanx and can you prescribe the cost of one safari in total?
finally drafted a plan for hope it goes well

day2 - safari at chapramari forest & then tour of samsing n suntelkhola and drop at lataguri. satying over night

OK program. Just curiosity:
1. Is there any special reason for staying at Chalsa? Staying at which place?
2. Where will you be spending night at Lataguri?
All the best for a happy journey! Please come up with a detailed TR with lot of photographs. Thanks.
