Mission Corbett

--

I'm starting this thread keeping in my two things - i) I need help because I know nothing. ii) Anyone else who finds Corbett as complex as I do, would find this thread helpful.

So, your participation is as much important as mine. THanks in advance. I will continue to update this thread till the day I get to post my Corbett pics. Bear with me, friends.

---

-- My target date for Corbett : March third or fourth week. On or after 18th March. (any day we get bookings for Dhikala)

-- We will be going 3 persons. ( So we need to book one room, with extra bed)

-- We will be staying 2 nights in Dhikala. And 1 night somewhere else. But not sure apart from Dhikala, which would be another good option.(??) Priority : Tiger. Please suggest.

-- We will be taking train to Delhi from Kolkata. And Delhi to Ramnagar train, again.

-- Ramnagar to Corbett National Park - How much is the Car fare?? Advance booking needs to be done? If Yes, then from where? Please Suggest.

-- I know we can do accommodation booking not before 45 days. We get that. Drivers' charges are included. But where from I can book the gyp safaris? Is it also possible to book online for gyp safari? Or it is spot booking. The Tariff chart says gyp safari 500.Is it per person/per ride basis? Like if I do both morning and afternoon session, I will need to pay 1000 bucks. Please suggest.

-- Guide!! Woah. I was reading old threads, I saw names like Ramesh etc who were charging 80,000 plus cash. We don't have that huge budget. So , we won't be taking a naturalist/GUides. But we will have our gyp driver with us. He would be able to guide us?

-- We won't be hiring any car because we will reach Ramnagar in Train. And from corbett we will have our gyp for safari. Is there any need to hire a car for any other reasons? Please Suggest.

2 nights in Dhikala and 1 night somewhere else. Bijrani/Jhirna ?? If there is anything I need to know please suggest. I'm starting from zero here.

Thanks all.

You may Consider One night stay at Bijarani FRH .

-- We will be taking train to Delhi from Kolkata. And Delhi to Ramnagar train, again.

-- Ramnagar to Corbett National Park - How much is the Car fare?? Advance booking needs to be done? If Yes, then from where? Please Suggest.

You need to book a Gypsy separately for those 3 days. That Gypsy will pick up you from Ramnagar Station (generally this pick up is complimentary & they will not charge anything for this).

-- I know we can do accommodation booking not before 45 days. We get that. Drivers' charges are included. But where from I can book the gyp safaris? Is it also possible to book online for gyp safari? Rs 500 Is Gypsy Entry Fees . You have to book A Gypsy , which will cost around 3500 INR per day (including night stay).

-- We won't be hiring any car because we will reach Ramnagar in Train. And from corbett we will have our gyp for safari. Is there any need to hire a car for any other reasons? Please Suggest.

No need to book any other Car. The Gypsy will Pick Up / Drop you at the Station

Thanks all.

Thanks Arupratan Da. I read your Corbett report which helped me immensely. And some great clicks.

--

Gypsy will cost 3500 perday. ( Approx) ---- Is it a spot booking from Ramnagar? Is there anyway I can advance book? The gypsy drivers are good guides?

-- I saw vehicle entry fees are included with the accommodation charges. But the safari charges for morning and afternoon sessions - do I need to pay this separately somewhere?

Thanks.

You may book the Gypsy beforehand. There are several websites offering Gypsy Hiring in Corbett. You may book your Gypsy through them. You need not to hire a guide separately. Drivers are good enough to guide you in the forest.

There is No separate charge for safaris . It is included in the Gypsy Hire Charges (Per day 3.5 K for 2 safaris & Night stay).

Update:

I tried booking accommodation online using this website : http://corbettonline.uk.gov.in/

---

I tried to book this for my friend who wants to visit on December 17th and room was available. But the moment I clicked "proceed" , an error page pop'd up.

It says, server error. Everytime I try it using google chrome, IE - it gives the same error. Anyone else facing this?

I am afraid if this continues then I will never be able to book my room in Dhikala FRH for my March end visit.

PLease help.

Dhikala has canteen facility in premises. You get buffet lunch and dinner for Rs. 200 and breakfast for Rs. 150. Rs. 550 per person per day. There is a private canteen as well which runs throughout the day.

-- We will be staying 2 nights in Dhikala. And 1 night somewhere else. But not sure apart from Dhikala, which would be another good option.(??) Priority : Tiger. Please suggest.

You can chose from a FRH in Dhikala zone only. Otherwise, you have to exit the forest and enter again from a different gate for a different zone. Moreover, Dhikala offers very good chances for tiger sighting. You can chose from Sarpduli or Gairal.

-- We will be taking train to Delhi from Kolkata. And Delhi to Ramnagar train, again.

Only 1 option. Uttarakhand Sampark Kranti Exp. Slip which will reach Ramanagar early morning. Check IRCTC for more details.

-- Ramnagar to Corbett National Park - How much is the Car fare?? Advance booking needs to be done? If Yes, then from where? Please Suggest.

Once your car (jeep) is booked, they can pick you up from station itself and will drop you back in Ramnagar only. No need for any additional car booking.

Once you reach Ramnagar, you can do spot booking of gypsy near the main office of Corbett National Park in Ramnagar. You will get a lot of option there. Otherwise, you can also search online. They will charge you anywhere between Rs. 3000 to Rs. 4000 per day. Both morning and evening safaris are included in this.

-- Guide!! Woah. I was reading old threads, I saw names like Ramesh etc who were charging 80,000 plus cash. We don't have that huge budget. So , we won't be taking a naturalist/GUides. But we will have our gyp driver with us. He would be able to guide us?

You can hire a guide from Dhikala only for your morning and evening safaris. There is no need to hire a guide from Ramnagar itself. They will charge you around Rs. 350 - 400 per day.

-- We won't be hiring any car because we will reach Ramnagar in Train. And from corbett we will have our gyp for safari. Is there any need to hire a car for any other reasons? Please Suggest.

No need for any additional car hire

Dhikala Restaurant : For B/f : 200 Rs & for Lunch & Dinner : 250 Rs ( Buffet ) , so per day per head 700 Rs for food in Dhikala (all veg ).

There is a canteen also in Dhikala , which is relatively cheaper.

Bijrani Restaurant : For B/f : 150 Rs & for Lunch & Dinner : 200 Rs ( Buffet ). so per day per head 550 Rs for food in Bijrani (all veg ).
