Bandipur Trip

Best place to stay is JLR (Jungle Lodges Resort)....
They charge around 3K per person/day..It includes 2 jeep safaris,accomadation & food.....

http://www.junglelodges.com/V2/Bandipur.htm

You can even stay in Forest Rest House near Bandipur forest reception center...You need to book in advance....

Forest dept runs a canter (small bus) which is best avoided....

Tholepetty is near to Nagarhole national park..Its near to a place called KUTTA.... Jeeps will be available outside the reception center...which can be booked easily.... Please check if park is open...Last time during our visit...Some strike was going on :-(

12 KMs from bandipur is Madhumalia national park (same forest but comes under tamilnadu range).....You can even visit it...

Other nearest place is Gopalswamy betta (should be 20 KMs from bandipur)...Good @ early morning hours...

Hi Suresh,

Bandipur has WLS and you can also visit Mudumalai NP [Coming under Tamilnadu limits] which is just 10 kms from Bandipur.

Budget hotel in Bandipur. I am not aware of any budget hotel as many of the resorts in the vicinity of this NP will be costly to
very costly.

From Thrissur, If you are on your car, take

Thrissur-Perinthalmanna-Nilambur-Gudalur-Mudumalai NP - Bandipur NP.

If you want to cover by bus, it might be time consuming but you could try out in the same way with 2 or 3 bus changes.

Hope this helps

As you are coming from Kolkatta, I would suggest you stick onto Mudumalai Or Bandipura which are more accessible from Mysore / Ooty . In fact ooty is just aorund 35 kms from Mudumalai / 45 kms from Bandipura[ If you go in cab].

Tholpetty WLS / Nagarahole NP are bit odd-man-out with poor roads .

In Bandipur/ Mudumalai , you can make use of Forest dept vehicle which will charge you 85/ person and the trip will be for 1 Hour 15 minutes approximately.

Hope this helps

Bandipur

As informed earlier...

Bandipur - Two options for safari
1) Jeep safari with resorts - Better option...
2) Canter safari with forest dept- Noisey, shorter and crowded...

JLR Resort charge 3K/per person/day (Accomdation, food and 2 safaris).... I feel its worth...

There is one more private resort (don't remember the name, hardly 30 mts before forest check post),which charges 1750 Rs/- (Accomadation, food and 1 safari)...

But JLR experiences matters. They are the best in bandipur...

Madhumalia national park is 12 KMs from bandipur...

1) canter safari with Forest dept..same as above
2) Private resorts nearby too offer jeep safaris (place name: masanigudi (<30 KMs from bandipur))

Regarding Tholepetty, Its quiet far from bandipur (check out the map)..You can visit Muthuga national park which is nearby(which falls under kerala govt)

You can contact one Mr Nair (jeep driver @ Tholapetty) @ 09747373441, he can give more information...Can i share mobile no?? If you trip is short one... better avoid

These three park ranges (Bandipur, madhumalia and muthuga) is one forest, but falls under different states...

1. Since i'm supposed to reach Bandipur around 6.30am in the morning,so how to avail the safari part?? does the small bus operated by forest dept. leave at regular interval or something like that ??

2. I think safari part will be for around 1hr or so, after that i will be leaving for Masinagudi and it would take around 30mins.What can the activities be after reaching Masinagudi apart from having lunch

3. Can u provide an approximate cost of taxi fare for thins day long activity ??? any contact no. ??

Thanks in advance.

Please find my comments inline Sopan !

1. Since i'm supposed to reach Bandipur around 6.30am in the morning,so how to avail the safari part?? does the small bus operated by forest dept. leave at regular interval or something like that ??

In Bandipur, they have more than one forest dept vehicle for Safaris and first Safari starts by 6 am and the safari lasts for 1 to 1 Hour 15 minutes and Exactly by 9 am the Safari ends. If you start from Mysore by 5 am you can definitely make it to Second trip with ease.

Once you reach Bandipur, Directly go to Forest dept office and book for Safari [No Advance or online booking possible] and try to have Bandipur / Mudumalai safaris on Weekdays as weekends will be tooooo crowded. If I remember correctly it's 85 Rs / Person.

2. I think safari part will be for around 1hr or so, after that i will be leaving for Masinagudi and it would take around 30mins.What can the activities be after reaching Masinagudi apart from having lunch

From Bandipur, Mudumalai NP is 10 kms and ask your driver to drive at 20 Km/ Hr speed and look for animals and Masinagudi is 3 kms from Mudumalai and that's the better place for Food once you leave Mysore. In Masinagudi nothing much can be done expect that you have a View of Nilgiris [ Read Ooty] from Masinagudi and as The Afternoon Safari starts at 3 in Mudumalai NP , probably you may try to go upto Ooty [ Just 29 kms from Masinagudi] and the climb in that "Kalghatty Ghat road" will be Nice experience with Scenic Views !. This you can do if you would like to kill the time. OR else Have lunch at Masinagudi, get back to "Theppakadu Elephant camp" and spend time in observing elephants over there for 1 hour or so !

OR

After Bandipur Safari, Ask your driver to drive to "Gopalaswamy Betta" [ Gopalaswamy hills] which is 7 kms from Bandipur and it's a nice small hillet with a ancient temple and Nice Views again[ This Hill itself is part of Bandipur Tiger Reserve] and here you can spend 1 hour or so and get to Masinagudi Followed by Mudumalai NP Safari !

3. Can u provide an approximate cost of taxi fare for thins day long activity ??? any contact no. ??

I did not used Rental Taxi till now and Sorry I don't have any recommendations on this one.

If you need more information, Please feel free to ask !

Best Regards
