I think the car reaches extreme top, although not 100 % sure. Sorry no idea about the costs.

What are the other sight seeing options in and around Bandhavgarh, staying at a resort in Bandhavgarh within a radius of 150 Kms one way?

Arrow Bandhavgarh Done

Hai PPL,

Just finished the 4 runs, too much crowd, the noisy tourisy type. We were very very lucky, could see B2 the big male Mr.Stripes up close. Caught lots of other wildlife too, just now in Khajuraho, will post detials and photos later.

Some answers to some questions here:

cold? Yes, its very cold in the mornings, need to take some warm cloths; in December, it you would need full gear, including gloves for those who are sensitive to low temp.

The approach road from Umariah side is a horror, Katni to Bandavgarh still being made, very bad even for my SUV, smaller vehicles would take a hard pounding including the passengers.

Sesha Saiya is an awesome sight, for those inclined. Its in a different track from the fort, one can tell the safari driver/ guide you need to see it during the safari, they'd drive you up, it would eat up about 30 - 45 mts off your safari time.

Did the fort, a good 4 wheel Gypsey, goes to the very top. It's a pretty tricky drive up, experienced drivers do it OK, the utrun and climbing bit up to the first gate the the most dangerous of all. They have again restricted cars up to only 5 a day; the car charge Rs.1500/-only for the fort drive, IMO worth every rupee, a great drive up and on a clear day, a fantastic photo op.

One or two quick feeds: They have restricted entry thro the main entry @ Talav to 45 gypseys, they used to let in 150 !!!!! One need to book in early and tie it up. Due to the crowd they have opened 2 new zones, Makdi and another one. I could get my first safari thro Makdi, animals were very very sensitive to sound, more wild / less domesticated; IMO tiger sightings would be more difficult there, they're not used to vehicle & human sounds as much as the main gate zone.

During December, it would be a mad house, lots of noise and chances of sightings go down. Anyone going need to do at least 4 rides to get a good chance to spot Mr.Stripe.

Hello,

I am planning on staying at the White Tiger Forest Lodge the first week of January. Our train arrives in Umaria at 5 am. How will we get from the train station to the Lodge(are there taxis readilly available then)? Also, will we be there early enough to be able to get on the first safari in the park that morning?

You will get taxis from the station, they are likely to rip you, so better your resort rips you. At least you can later chek up with local taxis and if your lodge has overcharged you, you can complain to someone at the lodge. Inform them in advance, they'd arrange pick up, its a well oiled system there; take the taxi number and the cell number of the driver, if possible.

It will be too late for the gates, opens @ 630 in the morning. Assuming your train arrives on time, it would be about 1hr + ride to the Talav gates, you have the book in the previous night, there would be a crowd.

Alternative is, inform your hotel to register for safari in advance, come straight from the rly. station to the Talav gate and jump into the Gypsey for safari. January mornings would be very very cold, need to be rigged for that in the morning safari. All this is possible if your train reaches on time at Katni, your taxi runs the distance to the Talav Gate before 0630 AM. You can enter even after 0630 AM, but then everyone would have gone in chances of sightings decrease after sun-up.

Best of luck,

--Arkz.

White tiger resort just allows you to book rooms with all meals. You will have to book entries separately. I give you the link in the other post on Bandhavgarh. Then you will have only to pay in India the jeep (around 2000 Rs per day, you will find tariff on www.mptourism.com) and the guide fee (300 Rs per day).
