Tadoba Trip Update

Just back from Tadoba yesterday.. It was my 11th trip and Had wonderful time as usual. total 12 Tigers sighted in 6 safaris. Maya and Cub Sonam and Cubs, Lara spotted almost after 2 years after separating from Sonam. Chhoti tara was next to our Gypsy. Navegao Male at PP 2 waterhole. Few New unknown tigers in Tadoba lake aria. Did super birding in Tadoba and Waghdoh aria. Subhash was there with me in all 6 safaris. He is really smart guy with powerful eyesight. He spotted Tiger sitting on opposite bank of the lake. it was hardly visible for us with binoculars.

This was 11th time I stayed at MTDC. The Food Contractor is a private contractor now and the service has improved drastically. very fast service but you have to place the order at least 2 hours in advance as it is not road side hotel. Only the people who stay there come to eat and not outsiders. so they make limited food. so its better to order food in advance. amazing food I enjoyed everyday. (I eat non veg only. Chicken Spicy Saoji masala is awesome.) But even my Veg friends were happy with food. New rooms are fantastic.

It rained on weekend and it was very dangerous even roaming inside MTDC property. I saw many black and dark green scorpions in open ground opposite restaurant. So make sure you wear boots when you step out of your room. This is not a Lonavla Khandala resort to wear Floaters and roam in resort property. this government property is right in the middle of the core aria of Tiger Jungle. So better take extra care if there are kids with you. Powerful torch flashlight is must.

Also Please use this Route. Do not use Ashta Mudholi route. Roads are very bad from that side. Use (this) route. little long but excellent road.

Will upload photos in some days.

Please let me know if any query.

regards

Nitin Ule

Hello, I will be in India during August, and I heard that buffer zone of Tadoba is open at that time.

Is is worth to get a trial to see a tiger during that time?

I know during monsoon is very hard to see...how many possibilities should I have?

Otherwise, are there other option to see a tiger in that period?

Hi Andrea,

Yes. The Jungle is closed in Monsoon. But Tadoba main road in open. (Now closed) Open until Pandharpawni aria. So it covers decent Jungle. The inner lanes of core aria are closed. Booking is on the spot. Only 6 Gypsies are allowed in one safari on main road which is 22 kilometres. Many people get to see many animals and even the tigers on main roads as Jungle becomes wet so Tigers come and sleep on te main road or on dry places near road. Bufder aria is also open in Tadoba except Monday or Wednesday. (Will confirm)

Along with Tadoba you can also try Umred. You can stay at Karahndala gate. Umred core aria is open whole year as it is still not a Tiger reserve. But there are more than 12 Tigers right now.

All the best

Nitin

Came back from a fantastic trip to Tadoba last weekend. Did 4 safaris from Kolara Gate. Had excellent sighting of Maya and 2 of her cubs on Navegaon road. In the same safari we managed to get one of Sonam's cub near Telia but missed Sonam. Apart from that had 3 sloth bear sightings near Panderpavani and 6 wild dogs in the same place in the last safari. Witnessed a Wild dog hunt of spotted deer though it was an unsuccessful attempt.

Hello Nitin,

I will have a 3 days (with 4 safaries) in Tadoba during middle of August...
I heard that is not the perfect time to see a tiger, cause of monsoon...

Are there still some chance to see a tiger during that period? Or no way?

You can read the post #48 above. Now there is news that they are going to keep.the main road open whole week. But on the site booking is not possible. Its showing park is closed. But call Subhash he will guide you about booking and everything.

If you want English Speaking Guide then Call Vasant Sonule. His number is 09579015631 (0091-95-790-15631)

I would suggest you take a safari and go direct to the Pandharpauni Waterhole 1. ANd park your Gypsy over there. There are highest chances you get to see Maya and her big 3 cubs. Or go as per the guide. They know the latest movement of the Tigers and they can predict their next movement.

All the best

Guides are actually local tribal poor people. They hardly have internet on their mobile. So no one has Email or even PC. They have to go to Chandrapur town for any print out or internet PC related work.
Best is call them and they maintain book for the Safari bookings. But call them from 10:30 am to 11:30 am or 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Rest of the time they are either sleeping or in jungle in No Network aria.

Search Umred Karhandala on Facebook.

Regards.

Andreas86m,

UPDATE

The Tadoba Safari booking is open in monsoon also. You can book it from here. Choose Tadoba (https://nationalpark.mahaonline.gov....ilability.aspx).
After booking Please save the Ticket as PDF File. It is must or you will loose your money. they have problem going on regarding Log In to your account. So Saving the Ticket in PDF file is must. You can take print out later on. They say that the ticket will be emailed to your registered email Id but I have never got it. So Take care.

But Only 15 Gypsies are allowed and only Main Tar road is accessible. The inner lanes are closed until 15th October. Go for it. You will have good experiance of Green Jungles of Central India. Go and park yourself at Tadoba lake or Pandharpawni waterhole No. 2....... 90% sure you will get to see Tigress Maya and her cubs.

Take Vasant Sonule Guide if you want good English speaking Guide. He talks little more (always happy to give details of all the small things in Jungle) but he has good knowledge of Jungle.

Vasan's number is 00919579015631. Please dont call these guides and drivers late night. They sleep by 9:30PM Indian time as they have to get up at 4:00AM everyday.
(Best time to call them is at around 11:00AM or at around 7:00PM Indian Time)

best of luck!

regards,

Nitin Ule

Thank you so much!
But what part should I book? There are a lot of option (lot of gates avaible).

And they also ask me the number of vehicle and the agent's name...is it mandatory or I can put that information later?
And for "tourist" info I should just put my name, true?

Hi,

You have to choose the gate which is near to your hotel or it will be impossible for you to reach the gates in morning. Please let me know the resort or hotel you are staying. I will suggest you the gate. Or call the hotel and ask them which is nearest gate. They will give you correct information.
Number of vehicles One. Agent name not necessary.

Make sure you put all information correct. Would suggest give passport details and carry passport with you as ID proof at the entry gate.

Regards.
