South Tadoba Buffer is happening now. Sharmili Madhuri and Lara are sighted frequently with their cubs. Also the male cal Khali is there with a new female.. so next whole year is going to rock.
Sonam is also frequent to Telia lake and vicinity
Matkasur and Sloth Bear fight was at JamunBodi waterhole.

Need Info About New Booking System

Hi,

i am planning to visit tadoba in may 2018.
as per new rule, if booking made 60-120 in advance the charges are more. while if book less than 60 day in advance, the rates are normal.

i have doubt that, how this days calculation takes place, i am bit confused about it.
can anybody explain by giving example.
for ex. if i want to book safari on 21st May then what is the ideal advance date where i should get the booking with normal rates.
please help.

Regards,
yogesh

yes, i checked that post.
thanks for your reply.

but still i am confused that, if i am planning for 21st may safari. my 60 days advance window (with normal rates ) would be open on 22nd of March or 21st of March ?
60th day was included for lower rates or excluded ?

60th Day is included . For Eg, Today (13th March) you can book permit for 12th may with normal rate. But if (today) you want to book ticket for 13th May you have to pay higher charges. So Calculate accordingly. Your need to book permits on 22nd March for 21st May.

If you are planning a safari on 21st May, your window will open on 22nd Mar at midnight (12AM IST). If you need to book for 22nd May, then your window would open on 23rd Mar at 12am IST.

Thanks to Nitin Ule for his valuable inputs. Have booked MTDC for 22nd May till 26 May. Have also booked 7 safaris, 4 in core and three in buffer.
Now to check out possibilities at Pench. First question: Maharashtra side or MP? Good stay possibilities on either side?

ps: Permit booking is quite a process. 60 days mean 60 days. Be sure to count 31 days in March.

My suggestion would be to divide safaris between TOURIA (MP) and Khursapar gate (Maha), in pench. Touria is more scenic, the famous Collarwali reigns there while Khursapar is the place where sightings are happening more frequently. In my recent trip to pench out of 5 safaris , tiger sighting happened in 3 of them.

Trip report 2018

Back from a Tadoba trip at the end of February 2018 with a friend. 4 nights and 5 safaris (4 Moharli and 1 Agarzari). We saw Maya and her two cubs very close and had another sighting of an older cub near Telia Lake, as well as a sloth bear and a leopard outside the reserve near MTDC (see below).

On the afternoon (28th Feb) that the fight between the male tiger and sloth bear made international news we were unfortunately in the buffer zone, but fellow guests at MTDC showed me a video and said it lasted around 30 minutes!! Wow!

A few tips and experiences to share from my trip...

On the day bookings from Moharli are not possible unless done online (ridiculous as there is minimal phone or internet connection in the area!). Luckily we had booked ours online before with help from Nitin. However on the spot bookings are possible from Agarzari and Devada Adegaon buffer zones which are a 10 minute drive from Moharli, and cost 2800inr in total rather than the 3850inr from Moharli. Particularly useful if you are in a group of 2 like us. Not only is it cheaper, but you can buddy up with others to bring costs down further. We just spoke to a solo tourist queuing up and we all shared one gypsy. These taktal bookings coupled with the canter at moharli mean that Tadoba can be done on a budget if desired. Indeed I would suggest to extend your stay in this magical place if you can and keep a few days with said flexibility.

Seeing the Royal Bengal Tiger roaming free in the wild is one of the greatest and rarest wildlife experiences (in my opinion). But sightings in any national park are a complete lottery, particularly if like me you don't believe in superstition! On our Agarzari safari we had no more than a few alarm calls, but at the gate where we entered, 15 minutes before we returned at the end of our safari, a tiger walked across the road right behind the booking office. Meanwhile, on the same afternoon in Moharli many got to witness a 30 minute fight between a bear and a tiger!! "Que Sera Sera".

I noticed the watch tower at the FDCM property close to MTDC, remembering how Nitin had mentioned it here. So after one afternoon safari I suggested to my companion that we... whisper it... take our bottle of rum and torch (essential) up to the top as we waited for our dinner to be prepared, knowing we probably won't see much. After climbing the steps there was initial excitement of being in the canopy after sundown and hearing the jungle all around. After 10 minutes we stopped focusing, sat down and let our guard down... mistake! The sound of an animal jumping down from a tree about 15 metres from us made the heart pound. Frozen, we saw the silhouette of a leopard walk right across our view. 10 minutes later we heard dogs barking from the direction it walked! It was my first leopard sighting in numerous trips in various parks in both India and Kenya. It was an amazing experience that probably trumped seeing a tiger and 2 cubs very close, in the park, in broad daylight, earlier that day. Simply because it was so exhilarating and isolated and removed from the traditional safari, complete with the safety of a jeep. With this leopards territory so close, I'd suggest anyone able bodied to pay a visit to the tower one evening if staying at MTDC, FDCM or nearby, and you might get lucky like we did!

Talking of watch towers, I learnt that the annual tiger census of Tadoba is happening at the end of April and anyone of any nationality can apply. It involves packing your sleeping bag and spending the night in one of the numerous watch towers in the reserve, in an effort to monitor tiger numbers. I am not in India during this period, but if I was I would not miss this great opportunity! I'd say google it and apply if you are. This was told to me by a Forest officer called Priyanka, who works at the Moharli booking office and is one of the only staff members who speaks excellent English (picked up from her love of Hollywood films!). Worth seeking out for any up to date info when you are queuing up.

The whole organization of Tadoba safaris leaves a lot to be desired, and you do find yourself scratching your head at times which is why this thread was so useful. Kudos to Nitin and thanks a lot! I hope you all enjoy Tadoba as much as I did.

credit cards accepted at MTDC?

Hello,
Could anyone confirm whether credit cards are accepted for payment at MTDC? I would love to pay all the fooding charges at one go through card. Else I might have to keep a lot of cash with me, apart from the cash for the safaris...I am going there on 1st April and returning on 11th...

Just back from hot, hot, hot Tadoba. Amazing sightings...Maya and cubs from a distance our first morning out. First afternoon in the buffer zone we saw Sharmili Madhuri - very close - about 15 feet away. Watched her for a bit until she made her way back into the bush. Second morning out was amazing...Choti Tara spent a lot of time walking alongside us - as close as 3 feet away from where I was standing inside our gypsy. That was an incredible, unforgettable experience. Thanks to everyone here for their help and suggestions! Not sure wherever we go next can ever live up to Tadoba!
