I appreciate that , but i guessed i would be tired after a marathon journey by rail, flight and then road . I thought of mostly relaxing the first day and doing some village trip or somewhere close by.

I don't know where you're staying but if it's at the MTDC then there's nothing close by except the jungle. The buffer zone gate is a scant 100 mtrs away and there's a tigress spotted there regularly early in the mornings. I myself have seen sloth bears there on different occasions. Not the sort of place you'd want to saunter around, except in a largish sort of group. The guys at the resort tell stories of them on mobikes getting chased by leopards shortly after dusk when they either are returning to the village or the resort.
Believe me despite how tired you are the jungle will draw you to it and you will kick yourself for having wasted an afternoon sitting around in the resort or hotel wherever you're going to be putting up at. The village is nothing at all. Nothing quaint or charming and in a few moments you'll want to return to your rooms. There's nothing else here but the jungle.
Also remember this is a dry zone so if you don't mind a bit of a tipple this is not where you can indulge yourself.
Hope you have loads of fun and get to see what you want. I am madly in love with both Tadoba at large and the MTDC resort for it's gorgeous location

wow..your description makes me wanting to go for the extra safari , i agree with you the lure of the jungle is unparallel. I will be staying at the MTDC , i kept one morning safari at the buffer zone . I have checked online , no evening safari available on 12/03 , is it possible to get one Tatkal ( on the spot booking)?

Don't they allow the guests to consume alcohol within the confines of their rooms ?

At Tadoba Moharli (and also Kolara) you have canter safari also which is done at entry gate itself (no online booking)
Also you should be able to get jeep safari in a buffer zone at Moharli

No you're not allowed to bring alcohol into the entire district. In fact many villages have female vigilantes roaming around in the evenings trying to find who are drunk or bringing in booze.

Amazing info on Tadoba here! Better than anywhere else! Many thanks to Nitin and all the other contributors.

I am planning to visit TATR in June. Questions I have:

1. The plan is to reach around 18th June and stay for 3 nights. Is mid-june a good weather for TATR? Or will it be too rainy? This may not be the right thread, but if not TATR, can you suggest which other Tiger reserve is good for visiting in mid-June?

2. We will be travelling with 4 kids ranging from 1 year to 7 years old. Is this weather a good time to take them to TATR?

3. I am keen on staying at MTDC. But on an earlier post, I read about scropions in June! Is MTDC then safe with children? If not, which other hotel would one recommend?

4. We will be 6 adults and 4 kids. Will we be allowed in one gypsy or do we need to book two?

Many thanks in advance,
Zany.

speak with your driver and if you have to smuggle it in then speak with your driver while still in Nagpur district. The sort of vigilante you have to deal with lower the bar on vacation. Nothing like some sweet little charm to get past that

1) june is a good time to visit as the tiger sightings are good (despite the start of rains)

2) It will be hot (temperatures can go upto 45 degrees Celcius. Please book a room wit air conditioning. Do carry plenty of water / juice to keep oneself hydrated

3) It will be dusty (red dust). May like to carry a head gear /scarf / mouth mask to protect yourself as well as the young ones

4) Wear shoes whenever you step out of the room. MTDC is ok. There are other private resorts (obviously more expensive)

5) Book two jeeps (as it is not possible to accommodate in one jeep - not allowed)
