Dear Fellow IMers

I've written a post about my experience birding on the shores of Lake Chilika in the village of Mangalajodi, Odisha - not far from Bhubanewar or Puri.

I will try to post here in due course but due to the images being larger in size and not very good in resolution (the birds are small and I have an entry level zoom lens so had to crop a lot), I've kept the post on my blog for now.

I have not seen any detailed write up on Mangalajodi or the excellent work being done by Sri Mahavir Pakshi Suraksha Samiti (lit: Sri Mahavir Bird Protection Council) here on IM so thought of sharing this with all IMers.

Please have a look if birdwatching interests you.

thank you
Vaibhav

Very tempting and excellent birds but not sure if the two of us would be up to something this exotic.

Fascinating, and really good information Vaibhav! I enjoyed reading it a lot.

It would be great if you could post it here in IM when you have time. And the experts and enthusiasts on the bird thread would, I'm sure, be happy to jump in and help with any ID's you are unsure of.

Thanks RWe - that's what I was confused about. I have also seen this bird in very large (1000+) number on the outskirts of Jaipur ... it's quite easy to track and click.

Guess what? I went there and I recommend it strongly. Pictures coming soon. Vaibhav did you witness the cloud of Godwits? I was completely floored by that.

Oh wow - you did! Aren't those guys awesome ? So down to earth and happy to be of help.

I think I did see some very large flocks (estimated in thousands) of godwits and stilts ... but am sure you saw something unique.

Post the photos soon ....

Vaibhav no I also saw similar sized swarms of Godwits. But how come you posted no picture of the swarm. I do not have many pics though as I only had a wide angle lens with me.

I didn't take any of the swarm (I had the tele 55-200 on to capture as many bird close ups as possible)

Now that Calcuttan is going there the pic qualities are going to get even better! Are there two organizations working there? We visited via Santosh and Lakshmi working for Indian Grameen Services.
