I have a month in India in November/December and have planned to go from from Varanasi to Kahajuraho. I have the accom for all the trip booked and have researched train timetables to get me around and thought I had it worked out nicely. However now that I'm around 90 days out, I have started to book trains and realise I've read the days wrong for which the train I need operates! So it's kinda thrown things out a bit. I need to travel on a day which the train does not go to Khajuraho (train #1108), however I notice that it does go daily at least as far as Mahoba and that there is a daily service from the west (train #2448) which could get me from Mahoba to Khajuraho.

My question is - the service from Varanasi (#1108) is scheduled to arrive in Mahoba at 3:29am and the daily service to Khajuraho (#2448) is scheduled to depart Mahoba at 5:10am - is this enough time to allow for delays / switching trains? Am I silly to try make this connection? My next destination after Khajuraho is Agra - I could just do Varanasi to Agra and skip Khajuraho, but would like to try see it if possible.

Just after any thoughts from people in the know. Thanks for nay help.

Cheers,
Mark.

Hello Mark and welcome to indiamike

1108 has a bit of a reputation for being late, and if one website is to be believed, it's average delay in arriving at Mahoba is 1 hour 42 minutes, today it arrived at Mahoba at 05:00, yesterday at 05:11, Wednesday at 04:09, Tuesday at 04:47, so it's a bit hit and miss.

However, there are plenty of buses from Mahoba to Khajuraho.

I guess a lot depends on how much time you're planning to spend in Khajuraho, and how you plan to move on to Agra, if time is short, stay on train 1108 till Jhansi, then go to Orchha for a day before heading to Agra.

Watch out for delays from the middle of December in the north, the fog can cause havoc to any Itinerary, make sure you don't have a long journey to get back to your departure airport.

Thanks Steve.

I'll have a look into Orchha as an alternative to Khajuraho, plus I'll investigate the Mahoba > Khajuraho bus. I was planning on not much more than a day in Khajuraho, but it did fit in nicely with the train times that I thought were correct! Oh well.

Cheers,
Mark.

As steve already said, there are several buses from Mahoba to Khajuraho. You can spend that day in Khajuraho and head to Agra the next day via Jhansi
