I want to get seats for a relatively short journey from Alleppey to Ernaculum in Kerala. The best train time wise for us says unreserved . Can anyone give me an idea of what it might be like for 2older women, with small case and backpack each, and how long before it goes should we arrive to get tickets etc. Is it just a big scrum to get any decent seats? Looking forward to all your knowledgeable replies! ( it is so annoying when the train you want doesn't run on the day you want!)

Hi Zahonado,

I dont know much about the place. But normally in the Un-reserved trains, there is a fight to get the window seat or even a seat (if it is runing in the morning or early evening time) as soon as the train reaches Railway Platform.

So if the train Timing is not between (6-11 AM and 4-8 PM) You can get seat comfortably.

But I think the distance from Allepy and Ernakulam is around 60 Kms by Road. There must be Transport by Road (Local Bus Service) where, if you reach 30mins before bus timing , you can easily get seat to travel confortably.

The other option is to hire a taxy to drop at Ernakulam (here you have to pay higher)

I Guess you want to catch another train from Ernakulam. Then travelling in would be easier to catch your connecting train.

But lets wait somebody , who is familliar to the place to respond

Is it the 15:00 departure you wanted, but need to take the 13:50 passenger instead?

Why Ernakulam? are you going to Kochi?

If so, a bus direct to Kochi may be better.

If you want to connect with a train at Ernakulam, what train, to where?

You have to assume you will not get a seat on the passenger train, though it's not too long to stand or sit on the floor.

You'd need to get to the station about 30-40 minutes before the train's departure time to get your tickets, if you were male, you'd need longer to get the tickets.

Unreserved tickets

Thanks for the advice. Question is, which is the more scary/stressful experience ,road or unreserved rail?We are going to Ernakulum to get to the airport and we will get a taxi from there, but found the whole route a bit stressful on the way down, although we diverted to temples on route where we wished for safe journeys!

There are buses plying between Alleppy and Ernakulam and I would suggest you to travel by bus because of your age and you may not get seats in the train as most trains are crowded.

Give us the info to give you a useful reply, we often know little bits of info that can be really helpful.

For example, Angamali train station is very close to the airport.

What time is the flight?

Alleppey to airport

I think those trains won't suit us as the only one suitable will arrive long before our flight which is at 16.00 As we have two cases we can't really go anywhere in between. I can't remember what the immediate surroundings were like, are there restaurants for example?, but it is very good information.
The buses have been mentioned ...are there good Volvo air con ones fro Alleppey to near the airport, and where do they go from in Alleppey?
Thanks for the info everyone.

Zahonado - I dont think Volvo is available from Alleppy to Ernakualam. You can get state tranport. As you have your flight at 16.00, you have to travel arround noon time and this would be little Hot and sweating.

For comfort and safe travel hire a taxi directly from Alleppy to Airport as it is only 50/60 kms away. but cost would be higher (Rs.600 to 700 for dropping may be for Indica)

NO. You have to buy it from Malda. If you already have a ticket till Malda, you can ask the TTE to give you an extension Journey ticket..
