In all probability you will end up in a 4-berth coupe.

if you have mention your preference in reservation form and it has been enter in prs system by clerk then there is probability that you may get your desired berth . generally if your ticket is not showing your berth number like CNF in case of first class or WL/RAC and chart is not prepared you can make a request to any PRS counter to change your berth preference and there is strong probability for your desired berth .

The reason i say that is because if there are any couples travelling in 1AC, they will get higher preference than you. And invariably there are couples or elderly persons travelling together who get this 2-berth coupe. A single person usually fits in with the 4-berth.

##The Berth Choice LB/MB/UB/SL/SU in respect of 2A/3A/SL can be exercised when the booking is attempted through either IRCTC or PRS Counter and the exercised choice is accepted subject to availability.

##In respect of IAC or FC, only berth choice (UB or LB) can be exercised when the booking is attempted through either IRCTC or PRS Counter. To the best of my knowledge, the Choice for Coupe can be exercised only when booking is attempted through PRS Counter. This Choice is kept in view, when the Final Charts are finalised and is accepted subject to availability. As pointed out by 'Bond', the Couple is given preference for allotment of Coupe, provided further this Coupe is NOT sought by those who seek allotment of berths under Emergency Quota.

##In all the cases listed above, choice of berth once exercised, cannot be altered.

It's a good idea to buy some earplugs. I've found that 1A passengers often act like they're VVIPs and seem not to think it in any way rude to talk very loudly into their mobile phones when you're trying to sleep. This can go on for hours before sunrise, making sleep deprivation a real problem. If you want a good night's sleep you're better in 2 A than IA precisly because of this common sociopathic behaviour connected to the status symbol of a mobile phone. In other words, don't waste your money paying for 1A

The reason i choose 1AC was more of a desire to experience Rajdhani express, because it its only class i have not traveled in.Anyways i dont get sound sleep on train because i gotta take care of luggage and stuff since i am all alone. If the trip would have been a business or a tight schedule one i might as well as pick up an economy class air ticket for somewhat same price and save my time. Thanks for sharing your time and travel tips much appreciated

Well, I have heard of people travelling on 1A for business simply because they are afraid of flying.

Actually on 1A, you can be pretty sure that your luggage will be intact. It has the highest security protection. Off course being safer than sorry makes sense, but don't lose your sleep over that.

Its not just about time but also about convenience. Allow me to present another PoV.

We were regular commuters on the last 2330 flight BOM to DEL every Thu returning by the first 6am flight on Mon. When travelling by flight, we had to leave office by 8pm in order to reach the airport in time for checkin. By the time we reached our hotel room in Delhiit would be 2 am in the morning leaving us with very little sleep.

We switched to the Rajdhani. This requires us to leave 2 hours earlier from work to board the train. Not so much of an issue, because once settled into our coupes, usually once the train crosses Borivili, the laptops come out and we get some serious work done. Since we usually travel in a group of 4 or 5, we use the time for meetings in the coupe! Work continues till dinner time at 9 or so after which we get a full nights sleep. Earlier we used to go from the station to the hotel to freshen up, but ever since boss discovered that the 1AC compartment has shower facilities, we started heading straight to work and goin to the hotel rooms only in the evenings!

Not only is it more comfortable, and allows a full nights sleep both ways, it also saves us on hotel bills etc. The only problem, the Railways for some reason has just a single 1AC coach which is almost always fully packed. So the folks at our old office started pre-booking seats in bulk to ensure that we would be able to travel by train.

The railways should really consider increasing the number of 1AC coaches, especially on the Raj trains.

If you look back through Steven_Ber's posts over the past few weeks, you will find an analysis of why it is extremely unlikely that they will do that.

"coupe" refers to the two-berth compartment, not the 4-berth compartments.

on the Rajdhani? I am not sure if the Raj ever had a composite (half 1AC and half 2AC) coach ever! It has always had a full 1AC coach as far back as I can remember.
