Hi Everyone,

My mom had booked a ticket for Mumbai from Delhi dated 11th October. I just checked the status and it shows confirmed.

I wish to travel in place of her and would like to transfer the ticket in my name. I read somewhere that its possible now to transfer the ticket to someone else's name.

but I'm quite lost as to what exactly is the procedure and what needs to be done.

some advice will be of great help.

Thanks!

This talks about your problem.

Is it a e-ticket?

Transfer of name is possible between family members. Head with the ticket and an ID proof to the Reservation Counter (PRS) and get it done there.

There are five cases where a ticket can be transferred to another person. This is my favorite:

"(d) Where the passengers are members of a marriage party and any person deemed to be Head of such party makes a request in writing 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the train that the reservation made in the name of any member of the marriage party be transferred to any other person."

Only in India!

Your dad could be on his death bad, and your friend who just happens to have a ticket home on the next train could be willing to transfer it to you. But forget it, unless you want to get married at the same time!
