hi.

Me and my girlfriend will be travelling from mumbai to goa on the 30th december this year after spending a couple of days in mumbai.

now here is the problem, i came to book my train the other day and realised that it seemed i had left it too late as there was already waiting lists.... the train i would ideally like is the seemingly extremely popular konkan kanya exp 10111. after figuring out (with the help of india mike thankyou ) the waitlist/RAC system i had no choice but to book at wl 15/16 for AC2 on my desired train.

As a back up i booked onto another train the night before having to give up a night in mumbai , this was AC3 and not seated together (to my girlfriends disapproval) but it was confirmed so a good back up so i thought.

After checking my trips on cleartrip i have just noticed that my backup train was booked for the 29th NOV not 29th Dec!!! arrrrggghhh. I will now have to cancel this train! and i am left with no back up should the WL-15/16 tickets not get confirmed! All the trains around this time now have even higher waitlists 40's/50's and im unsure what to do.

What are my chances of the AC2 WL-15/16 getting confirmed on such a busy date??

Does anybody have any other travel suggestions??? Ideally i want to be in goa in time for new years eve. its also my first time in india and dont really want to be rushing myself and get too stressed.

ANY help anybody can give me would be great and i would be very appreciative

I hope u can help me

You could fly? Air India flight that day is around 6500 rupees for 2 people. Do checkout steven_ber's thread on trains, I am sure he has given lots of information on wait lists.

thanks for your reply,

yes flying is an option i have looked into but i dont seem to be able to find flights less than 10000 rupees.....there is also the time to consider as we only have 3 weeks so time is precious and flying would take up a day pretty much, it would also mean finding accommodation for another night that could be spent on the train.

The train is something i am looking forward to aswell for the experience, plus i hate flying so the less i have to fly the better haha

what about busses???

i understand the waitlist system (i think)i would just like to know what our chances of getting confirmed from AC2 WL-15/15 on such a busy popular route/time. any other time i wouldnt be so worried after reading other posts. i feel i might be very lucky if i get confirmed this time though :/

Certainly I love the Indian trains and I agree with you, it saves a night in the hotel! I certainly would NOT consider a bus for that distance. Have you tried directly with irctc I just looked and on your date it is showing WL13, less than cleartrip!

All I can say is Irctc are the direct booking site for Indian Rail, they 'subcontract' to Cleartrip and a couple of others. I always think it best to go to the original source!!I canot advise on the wait list chances as I have never experienced it but I would say just go for it and blag it if necessary!!

The status on both www.irctc.in and www.cleartrip.com will be the same. www.irctc.co.in will not accept foreign bank issued cards whereas www.cleartrip.com accepts.

bartos, you can try traveling by bus at that time. Makemytrip shows 3 buses for Goa.

You can also check on www.redbus.in

You have 2 waitlist numbers for each person, eg, WL15....WL12, the first number is the position you joined the waitlist, the 2nd is your actual position now, go to www.erail.in and check your PNR status to find out your latest position.

WL8 and above has no chance
WL5 up to WL7 is very unlikely to get confirmed, a small chance of getting you an RAC seat (2 people share 1 berth)
WL3 up to WL4 may get to RAC, and a small chance of getting confirmed.
I'd be hopeful of WL1 and WL2 getting confirmed, but it should move to RAC.

This is all guesswork though, a group of 4 or more may just cancel their confirmed tickets, then another couple, and that changes everything, so don't cancel your tickets until a few days before.

You have time on your side, plenty of time for people to cancel, though there wont be many cancellations on this train.

However, given the date, and the train, I think every quota will be sold out, the the HO quota (normally used to reduce the waitlist on the day of the train) will get used up before the reservation chart is prepared, so there will be very little (if any) movement in the waitlists on the last day.

There may be another way to get a train ticket from Mumbai CST to Madgaon, Goa - all above board. It is possible to book direct with Konkan Railway at

http://www.konkanrailway.com:8090/we...eservation.htm

Reservations open 7 days before travel and there are no refunds for cancellation for any reason. The fare is probably quite a bit higher (1500 each) and only 3AC is available. If your current reservations make no progress perhaps this could be a fall back for you.

Almost forgot to say that this appears to be a quota reserved purely for non-Indian residents.

I have to stress that I have no experience of using this myself but picked it up on another chat group (indiarailinfo).

If this works for you let us all know.

Good point Dave.

I suspect those tickets will sell out in 10 minutes (I think there are only 10 reserved for Konkam), so a person needs to do a practice run to learn everything that needs to be done, and then be ready when bookings open.

i'm finding myself in the same situation,i'm basically thinking i need to give up on the train idea. Do buses need to be booked in advance as well? Or would we be able to book a bus once there? I'm arriving into Mumbai late 27 dec and am hoping to get to Goa before new years. Do i have any other options?

If you do not get confirmed since one day left, try tatkal kota.

Normally you may get bus tickets a day before or even on the day of travel. But for 30 dec or around it you may do well to book in advance. Try redbus.in

Same

Hi, im glad ive came across this forum. Im in the same situation... my flight arrives at 2pm Dec 30th and I want to make my way to Goa asap. It seems like train and bus are both going to be a real hasstle, and considering now theres 4 people in this situation why dont we share a cab? Ive done this in India before and it works out really well. You can stop whenever you like to stretch your legs on the long journey.
For those in the situation let me know and we could have a quick chat to arrange it. I really dont fancy having to scramble for train tickets!

Problem is Martin that 30/31st dec all roads to Goa will be full
if youve no transport booked then get a hotel sorted out and stay the night in mumbai price of a taxi would be very high even split 4 ways might aswell get your head around the fact you left it to late for the new years bash but mumbai is a great city so the party there will be just as big
enjoy mumbai then head to goa
