It would be helpful if somebody could tell me whether this train is actually always late so that I can plan some other alternative.

Thanks in advance.
Do they have fixed time slots for darshan? I know they are a well-organized lot but this is going too far.
If the train is indeed delayed just shut your eyes at 9am and imagine you are having a darshan. The intention is more important than the act itself.

It generally is late, by about 1.5 hours. Then you need to have a bath and reach Tirumala. You may be able to explain being late by a coupe of hours.

Golghar: Its actually a good thing. Imagine waiting in a queue compartment for 30 hours to have a darshan of the Lord. This system gives you a scheduled date and time and one can turn up up to 2 hours on either side. With more than 100,000 people a day, its not an easy number to manage and scheduling gives them an indication of the crowd expected and helps the devotee too.

Thanks for the help Narendra. Just out of curiosity, is there any specific reason why this train never runs on schedule? I have traveled regularly in many long distance trains in IR network and they are not always late but Ventadiri Exp which runs on a relatively short route never seems to stick to schedule.

Most of it's journey is on the SC-SBC route. Hard to believe that such an important route is still single track

They should have made it double-track metre gauge instead of "converting". As far as I remember they put down a broad gauge track parallel to the metre gauge line between Renigunta and Tirupati East back in the sixties.

I am in support of a Unigauge policy that IR followed, but also blame it for High Speed not coming to India. India is among the few that uses the broad gauge and most high speed uses Standard gauge.

The speeds are just atrocious on IR, much less than current road speeds allow.

From an operational point of view Unigauge makes sense but it reduces the interest for the rail fan.

I don't think that Unigauge can be blamed for the lack of High Speed trains. The Spanish opted for standard gauge rather than broad gauge for their AVE system to allow interoperability with France, where the mainline system has always been standard gauge. The problem is , as always, money. India is like the UK. There is a legacy rail network that has been underinvested for decades. Who is going to pay for High Speed Rail?

I do not know how much sense does high speed rail make for the UK considering its size, but it certainly does for India.

Yes, Money, misplaced priorities and under investment are the cause.

Wink On the train with a motorbike from Goa to Assam.

Good afternoon,
We like to put our motorbike with us in the trains to reach Guwahati coming from Madgaon...via LTT!!! We foresee to take the following trains:

Tuesday
MAQ-LTT Exp 12620 Madgaon Dpt 20:40 LTT Arr 06:35
Wednesday
KARMMABHOOMI Exp 15611 LTT Dpt 11:25 Kamakhya Arr 19:15

Here are my questions:
- How long in advance do we have to be at the train station for our bike to be prepared and stored into the train?
- What are the required official papers/forms we have to present/fill knowing that as foreigners we had to register the motorbike under the name of an Indian friend of us?
- Will we have enough connecting time between the 2 trains to have the bike unloaded from a train and loaded into the otherone?
- Is it possible to book the motorbike as a luggage from abroad?

I think that is all for the moment, thanks a lot for your help, it is often complicated
to have a clear and trustable answer when you are far abroad...

Enjoy your day.

Advance booking

Not sure when it came into effect, but the advance booking period is presently 120 days. It used to be 60.
It's all part of the adventure of travelling!

At first thanks again for the instruction set up a cleartrip account, I'm using it every time also this time I booked nearly every train for this trip.

But just have one question I'm tying to book on the train 15206 CHITRAKUT EXP from Satna to Lucknow on 11. October- I used this one on my first trip.
But I cant get it or book it on cleartrip although its displayed on erail.in .
Train 15206 SATNA LUCKNOW N
Date 11-10-2015 / 2AClass -15 available / 3A Class -9

Is it possible that I just can book this train in India (tatkal), does cleartrip not have quota on all trains, or maybe I do missunderstand something?
Thanks for you answer

Train question!

I have a 1st class overnight ticket booked from Chennai to Kodaikanal Road. I've now changed plans and want to stay on the train an extra 50 minutes to Madurai.

There are currently no tickets available for the whole leg so I'm not going to cancel the trip. Is it ok to just stay on the train for an extra 50 minutes? Can I buy an extension once on board?
