Hii.. A 40 of our friends are going on an industrial tour.. Initially we booked our tickets for 40 of us from Duvvada to Yesvantpur on 08-01-2011.. we got nly 9 tickets confirmed and remaining on RLWL status.. We have learnt that 18 berths are available from vijayawada.. So cancelled 24 tickets out of 40 from duvvada and took tickets from Vijyawada to Yesvantpur.. So we hav a total of 27 reserved berths (9 frm duvvada and 18 frm Vijyawada)..
But we all will get into the train in Duvvada only.. Since we have 24 tickets from Vijayawada , we are planning to take 24 general tickets from Duvvada to Vijayawada and get into sleeper coaches..
Will TTE give objection to this? The travel from Duvvada to Vijayawada is 5 hours.. And Day time ( 10 30 am to 3 30 pm)?
Can we do wat we planned?

Of course he will object. If one can travel in a Reserved coach with a general ticket, what is the whole point of reservation. He will ask you to get off the reserved coaches. and travel in the unreserved coach till vijayawada, and then move over to your berths at BZA.
That is what you should do. Leave the lugage with your friends in the reserved coaches, travel till BZA in the unreserved coach.

Things in your Favour: College students going on a college tour.

Things against: Big group.

Don't try to bribe him: Try to explain and reason. Likely he will agree.

A bribe may be enough to keep the TTE happy, but what about the passengers booked in theose seats till Vijayawada, not to mention the additional day passengers without reservations.

Asking such thing in the open forum ????

Coming back to the query, this depends on the train. Is the train a long-distance one ? I mean that is it coming from a long distance, if so the other sleeper berths maybe already full or atleast will get occupied at Duvvada (as you saw that all tickets are booked). In such case, the TTE would not allow 2nd class ticket holders to get in Sleeper. Even if he allows, where will they sit for 5 hours ?

If a passenger holding general ticket and boards a sleeper coach, he will be charged the difference of the fare along with a fine of 50/-. Now, this doesn't mean he will get a seat/berth for this payment. It is not the railways responsibility. Once I traveled with my friends and did the same thing. I was lucky to share the seat with my friends. But in this case it is difficult to get seats for such a big group. The passengers holding reservation will object.
