Hello,
I'm going to India for a couple of weeks at the end of March. We arrive in Delhi at around midday on the 28th, and are hoping to get an overnight train to Udaipur on the 30th. If, as soon as I get into Delhi we went straight to the station to book our overnight train, do you think there will still be tickets left?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello B&W and welcome to indiamike.com

Simple answer, no, there are unlikely to be any berths left.

Always try to give as much info as you can, for example, there are 6 berths in First Class AC and about 400 in Sleeper Class, so you can see how any enquiries can depend very much on class of travel.

In India because of the high usage of trains & huge population it is always better to book in advance whatever the class you are planning to travel in. So if you have some travel agent who can book for you please do so as early as possible.

Thanks for your answer. We were hoping to go 2A or, if there were no 2A left, 1A. I have read the threads on booking from abroad and it sounds quite difficult, but if it means we are guaranteed a berth I'll try it. If I can't book, do we still stand a chance of getting on the train in sleeper class?
Thanks for your help again

Dear Blackandwhitecat,

The question of getting a berth in any class AND in any train on the day of journey will entirely depends upon

(i) the train that is selected;
(ii) the day-of-the week chosen;
(iii)the month of travel opted;

##As such it is extremely difficult either to answer your query or atleast to predict something, without the above data.
