I can still find 35 berths avaialable in various quotas, these could be used to reduce the RAC/waitlist, then the TTE has 1 berth in every 2nd Sleeper Class carriage, then there's last minute cancellations, but there's still a chance you could end up with only an RAC seat, I would still be hopeful of a confirmed berth though.

Good luck.

There must be 11 Sleeper Class carriages (12 RAC per carriage), so if you get down to RAC 22 when the reservation chart is prepared, you've still got a good chance of getting a confirmed berth, here's why.

AFTER CHART PREPERATION

RAC 1 & 2 will be in Sleeper Class coach 1 (S1), RAC 3 & 4 will be in S2 and so on....(then RAC 23 & 24 will be in S1 and so on..)

If one confirmed ticket holder doesn't turn up in S1, RAC 1 will get their Confirmed berth, then RAC 2 turns the 2 seats into 1 berth and has their own confirmed berth.

Now, maybe VSP can help here, but if I understand it correctly, if 2 confirmed ticket holders in S1 don't show, then RAC 23 would get the 2nd confirmed berth, and RAC 24 would then have a confirmed berth as well.

So it can be a bit of a lottery, because in theory, RAC 89 & 90 would get confirmed berths in S1 if 4 confirmed ticket holders faild to show up for the train, whilst RAC 3 could still remain in RAC if everyone in S2 turned up.

Indian Railways, always easy to understand.

Actually, those figures could be wrong, I just checked and there are 241 berths reserved for the Tatkal quota (bloody criminal in my opinion), so that's at least 4 extra carriages.

Again hopefully VSP can help here, but for a while I've suspected that Tatkal carriages still have RAC seats for general quota tickets, I can't see any other way there can be at least 132 RAC seats in what can otherwise be only 8 carriages (9 max). (there's also 1 2AC and 2 3AC carriages on this train + a pantry car)

Unfortunately, by the time I saw your post, chart was already prepared... NEVER GO FOR PQWL is the advice given by VSP (one of our senior members) to all the members.

As you can see, KK-MAS and PUNE-MAS fall under the same quota.

As the tickets even in April have moved to W/L, I presume the quota in 3AC is very less. I would have opted 1027 which has higher quota for Pune compared to 1041.

Difficult one to get confirmed. Pooles Quota is about 18 and difficult to expect 7 cancellations in a day.
OR, book a Tatkal ticket in the same train from Chennai to Aluva wherein you would get WL 5 and 6 which has a better chance than original ticket.
However you can also book a third AC ticket till Trivandrum on the same train that will have a much higher chance of a confirmed berth.

What i came to know is, 2 RAC ticket holders get one berth.
##If the status of RAC Passenger do NOT moves into Confirmed Status during charting, then he will be allotted a seat alongwith another RAC Passenger. When the SUB Passenger occupies his berth, then these two RAC Passengers will have to share the SLB.

##If the co-RAC Passenger do not turns up, then the remaining RAC Passenger can utilise the SLB for himself.

##In so far as movement in RAC is concerned, the status will improve only when there are cancellations from among the passengers holding confirmed reservation (or) those in the RAC List above the RAC Passenger.
