A joint venture partnership between the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) and Indian Railways plans to introduce a 'Palace On Wheels' for Karnataka.

The train will start and end at Bangalore and halt at Mysore, Hassan, Bandeli, Goa and Hampi, among others.

There is already enough controversy surrounding the Palace on wheels - this would add to it.

I have not been on these trains but I prefer the program followed by the Royal Orient.

That also reminds me of a video by LP (I think it was LP) called Anna walker's world or something. In this video, she goes out to see the REAL INDIA - riding in the Palace on wheels - spending around $350.00 or so per night!!!!

I saw a film on the (can't think of its name -- similar to Palace on Wheels) that goes through Rajasthan and Gujarat. The India shown in the film was curiously unpopulated. The platform at Ahmedabad station was EMPTY! That's not the India ~I~ know! The only crowded street shown was a posse of bicycles in Jaipur. No trucks, no rickshas, no swarms of humans.

If that's the India they are selling, I think I'll pass.

I jumped on the 'Palace On Wheels' at Jaipur (or Jodhpur, bad memory) and had a look around (security?).

It is an awsome train and better than the pictures make it look : Look at pictures on this site (check links at bottom)

But the overall feel is not real and sort of shut off from the rest of India (a bit like Air-Con First Class on the ordinary trains).

I think to go through India on one of these trains must be like going for a safari on a luxary bus, or walking through one of them underwater glass tubes you get at an aquarium.

When you look at the Detailed Itinerary It makes you wonder what kind of impression of India a person would get if they only went on this tour.

It reminds me of a man I spoke to a few years ago, when I asked him how he enjoyed his 2 week package holiday in Goa he replied "it was great, I hardly had to speak to any Indians"
