hi there

i tried to book my ticket on cleartrip but it was clearly impossible to get one. i even set my alarm to the the first minute you could book online and everything was fully booked already. the reason might be that indians can book a few hours in advance on irctc.co.in. im nr 95 on the waitlist (2ndClassSL).

since me and my friends are on a low budget i wanted to ask if its possible to get a general ticket for the overnight train on the 23.12. at the trainstation?

in india are so many touts running around and we would be willing to pay a few rupees more just to get a general ticket. normally something like that is possible but im not quite sure for the day before christmas.

otherwise we'd have to spend like 120$ each on a flight and bus is also no option, since i read everywhere that its a 20hour horrortrip

what do you guys suggest? thanks in advance

Can't you get a ticket on the same train but in a different class?

My Bombay friends, if they have failed to make a booking, take a train from Panvel that goes to Goa. It comes from somewhere up north and most of the passengers get off at Panvel to get to Bombay. I took it in Jan 2013 (just before the Republic Day holiday) with them unreserved and it was half empty all the way to Goa. It departs at around 5am and reaches Thivim in the late afternoon. You may have some luck booking that. It will take you about 1hr 30mins max to get to Panvel Station from Bombay at that time of the morning.

I am not good with trains but I am sure some expert will pipe up with the train number.

There is no limit to the number of General tickets sold. Just buy at the station before the train departs. I wouldn't recommend it for a long journey.

The Panvel option is booked out for 23rd December as are all of the Mumbai departures. Various trains are currently showing availability in FTQ but you have to be in India to buy that.

There are still seats in the 50105 (Diva Sawantwadi Passenger) in 2S. This train reaches Panvel at 7:00 am. From Sawantwadi take a bus or cab to where you want to go in Goa.

I spoke to my friends in Bombay. the train I was talking about is the 12450/Goa Sampark Kranti Express from Panvel to Madgaon, Goa. Try that too.
