Thanks for the recordings, I managed to hear the "Prepare Handkerchief", it was about 3 minutes 20 into the recording. (just after "the inconvenience caused is deeply regretted)

Oh dear, oh dear. So I listened to it, and I smiled, and then I thought about how pathetic I am listening to and smiling about train announcements just because they're from India, and then I started laughing at myself. Thanks mridula!

I must say I can't hear "prepare handkerchief", which I'm quite sorry about.

Steve, after inconvenience caused is deeply regretted she says 'kripya dhyan dijiye.' So that is your prepare handkerchief?

Karuna I wonder what is this prepare handkerchief business. Give it another try please, and let us all arrive at a consensus

It's probably because I know the words "kripiye" and "dijiye", so I hear them clearly. I want to prepare my hankie!

Right, I'm going to try really hard now to hear it....

I was traveling on the Delhi Metro last weekend only to realize that they have now dropped 'please' from 'mind the gap.' I of course had to record it.

In the same post you can listen to the old sounds too. This time the recording is quite clear though I have used the same phone as before.

I wonder why they have dropped the 'please' from 'mind the gap.' Anyone having any idea?

I haven't been on the Metro all that much, so this was really nice to hear/see. Thanks, Mridula

Hm, I don't hear the "prepare handkerchief" either.

Namaste_Cat I am glad you liked it. But I wonder why they dropped the 'please' recently.

After a long time I recorded another sound. If you are missing the rickety Indian buses here us the sound. Recorded it on my trip to Valley of Flowers so the pictures superimposed are from that trip.

This seems like such a long time ago, I wonder if the announcements have changed? Of late I have traveled so little by train, the last I boarded the train was in Rome I should go back to recording train announcements irrespective of the country I hear them in!

I thought that sounded like a window before seeing your description, thanks.

On a night bus once after having the window chatter though the evening into the night I realized there was something I could do about it. I rolled up bits of a cardboard ciggerett pack and stuffed them in to the window's slide track keep the window from rattling around. This improved the situation until I realized now I could hear all the other windows clacking away and that was more than anything I could do something about.
