I booked 3 Tickets yesterday Via Ticket counter and was given 2 middle berth & 1 Upper berth. I checked online today & saw there are many Lower Berths seats Available but when i asked for a Lower berth For a Senior Citizen Passenger the ticket counter Lady told me there are no Lower berths available. What can i do in this case ? I know there are seats available in Lower Berth & i want to change it before they get booked. Is there a way i can do it? I do not want to cancel the Tickets & buy new ones as that would charge me lot of money. Can anyone advice me on this? Any kind of help would be appreciated.

How did you check online that there are lower berths available? There is no way you can change your berths after the ticket is booked.

If there is a senior citizen traveling with you, then book that person in a different ticket.

hi aarosh,

I checked it on "https://www.irctc.co.in/eticketing/loginHome.jsf" and thats the reason i posted it here to find if there is any way i can change it.
Why shall i book that senior citizen in a different ticket? If i do that we wont get berths together. It was the Ticket Lady who did not give me the lower berth inspite of its availability. I wanted to change it and also make a complain for that lady.

The lower berth is allotted to the senior citizen only if they are traveling alone. If they are traveling with some one they do not become eligible for the lower berth.

You can not change the seat after it is allotted. You may try to book another ticket and see if you get a lower berth. Cancel your ticket only if you get a lower berth in the new booking.

There is no point in lodging a complaint for that ticket lady. The allotment is done by the computer system.

Now i get it, Senior citizen traveling alone are eligible for lower berths & not all the Senior Citizen (y) . Thank You

The allotment is done by the system but the Ticket Lady could have searched it.
The Railway site, Clear trip, Yatra & many other sites give us an option of choosing our berths, then why cant the Ticket counter booking system not have an option of choosing its berths. Just Curious.

You can give your preference for berth however there is no guarantee that you will get it as it will be done by the system who will take into account the number of people traveling, vacant seats as per the different station quotas etc.

you can be alloted lower berth quota if a sr. ctzn is booked single /along with sr. ctzn/ladies having age more than 45 years or lady booked in single having age more than 45 years ,if the form consists any male passenger less than 60 years of age or female passenger less than 45 years the booking is done under general quota thats you are denied of lower berth inspite of being vacant
