I have previously been registered with IRCTC/Cleartrip for booking trains but haven't been to India for a few years and have forgotten my login details. I no longer have the registered telephone (Indian) so have been unable to receive a new OTP to reactivate the account.

So I have started the process again with new email and UK mobile but have not received the mobile OTP to complete the process. I sent many emails over the last 7 days to IRCTC who keep saying that the problem will be looked into soon. To avoid waiting for IRCTC to respond I have now created 3 other accounts each with different emails and UK mobile numbers. None have these have received the mobile OTP.

The mobile number that I used for each application was +44 XXXXXXXXXX (initial 0 not included)

Have I done something incorrect with the mobile or does anybody have suggests about how I can get the mobile OTP.

The planning of the trip in October can't be finalised as I don't know if I will be able to book trains before leaving the UK

Thanks

Hi,

Sadly, there is no one easy answer to your situation, some folk seem to get registered with ease, others end up tearing their hair out. (I am nearly bald... )

Indian railways have changed the way they handle overseas registrations, and also have a new website in operation recently.

Best advice seems to be to follow the advice given at seat 61, but it sounds as if you are doing that already. Did you manage to pay the foreign phone fee, I think it was about Rs 100?

https://www.seat61.com/India.htm

Seat 61 suggests you try this site if you can't get registered with IRCTC:

Option 1: Buy online at 12go.asia - easiest way, international credit cards accepted...

Some things you may not be aware of that have changed in recent times:

If you obtain a foreign tourist quota ticket, you pay an extra 50%

Foreign tourists are not able to use the senior citizens discounts.

You can only make 6 reservations/cancellations per calendar month via the website.

Good luck, please keep us updated with how you get on, it is good to get up to date feedback...

Ed.

P.S. Edit: Did you add the "+" sign before the telephone numbers, that may cause a problem if so?

In the irctc.co.in I did not have to add any +1 sign. It was prefilled.

Some success to report.

I have many emails between myself and IRCTC that even included sending copy of my passport but have succeeded in registering..

Tried telephoning several Indian helpline numbers over several days without anybody in India actually pick up at there end. When I did get to speak to someone on the English line I was told that I would be transferred to the 'correct' English line only to join another waiting queue that got I eventually gave up on. I rang the same number again (+91 7553934141) now knowing that someone should pick up. The person in India asked for the ticket number and advised that the issue would be sorted in 24/48hrs. I wasn't convinced that this would be the case.

So after 24hrs I logged onto IRCTC only to see that my 'mobile' wasn't registered so I then requested a new OTP and within seconds my UK mobile received a message with an OTP to complete the registration and this worked.

What I can't understand is why did I need to speak to someone in India for the OTP to be sent. So I'm now hopefully going to book tickets through Cleartrip and I just hope that I can link the two systems.

Thanks

Hi,

I am glad you seem to be making progress, please let us know how things progress.

Sadly, for a country with so many very intelligent, technically minded and gifted people, India often seems to fall down on the simple things. I kind of think they put so much thought into making things difficult, for fraud prevention, that they hinder the smooth running of their systems?

Good luck!

Ed.
