I am unable to make any progress on the IRCTC website because I cannot provide an Indian mobile phone number. Without a "mobile verification code" I cannot do any booking on the site.

I give up, what's the trick here? I live outside of India so it will not accept my cell phone number.

One solution (probably the only one, at the moment), but it will take you some time and pro-active persistence, is described here: http://www.indiamike.com/india/india...phone-t154338/.

I emailed them immediately when they started the new procedure, and they told me to scan my passport. I emailed the scan to them, and on the first business day afterwards they gave me the mobile code to use. I believe the email was care@irctc.com

Katycab, now, that's what I call a solution. I will give it a try. Thank you.

Hello there Katycab

I'm in the same situation and i sent the passport and they gave me an email with my password and the email OPT code (straight away and that was great). The email also said that the mobile code was in a separate email with my email ID. Did your email from them have both codes in one? maybe i'm just not seeing it?

thanks

You should get the Verification code on a separate e-mail within a day or so. There is lots about here.

Let us know what happens. its always a thrill when someone actually succeeds. Attention to detail to the max and to the timing in India seems to be crucial..

so after a few more days of trying unsuccessfully with the email (they kept sending me an email saying that they sent the mobile number to my email - but it never arrived) and after not being able to reach them by phone (but i now think the office doesn't open til 10am - i was trying to reach them at 9am), i ended up asking my family member in India for their mobile and hit the resend to new mobile number. that generated an automatic response and my account is now active. i was able to book a ticket using my amex card. so i'm up and running!
