Hello,
please help with advice - I was trying to book on http://www.irctc.co.in/ e-ticket, everything went smooth untlil the payment. It stated that there is no possiblity to pay with international credit cards. Maybe I do not understand something but what should I do if I do not have Indian credit card? Is
there any other possibility to book train e-tickets using my local non - Indian credit card?

Try using www.cleartrip.com or www.makemytrip.com. www.irctc.co.in has stopped accepting credit / debit card issued by foreign banks except for American Express.

Lucky you becasue the systems seems to have stopped again, I have been getting the following message all week end. I called AMEX and they said the problem was with India and not them. You would think they could sort this out, its the same for Visa, not accepted from overseas.

You Were Trying To Use amex Payment Gateway And The Transaction CouldNot Proceed Due To Communication Failure.

There was a problem in processing the transaction due to one of the following reasons:
You have used Back/Refresh button of your browser.
You may have processed the transaction from more than one window.
Bank has resent the transaction with the same transaction ID.
To check if the ticket is booked, please click on the "Booked Tickets" link on the left navigation. If not booked, you may proceed to book again. If excess amount is found to be debited from your account, the same will be credited back to your account.
We regret that your Transaction could not be processed.

Hi
@paddyclancy I got the same message as you did from cleartrip, I phoned them and they were helpful and said I should try again and international card will work, I am not sure why it gave a problem then.
As I am new to India, I decided to fly locally for my first trip and will try to sort train tickets when I arrive for other legs of trip. Good luck!

I would very much recommend you get a visa/mastercard credit card before you come to India. American Express isn't accepted at too many places and if you are going to rely on it to any degree you are bound to run into problems.
