hi, i'm going to hv a 15-day trip to india this friday. we'd like to buy train tix which departs from Varanasi on 23 Jan for Agra. this is our first time to visit india and we're not familiar with the system. we haven't booked the tix yet and found it's on waitlist (WL3) from www.itcrc.co.in

this morning i learnt the following website from a thread here
http://www.indianrail.gov.in/cgi_bin...rcdest_cgi.cgi
and found that foreigner quota still availabile.

can i buy the tix for foreigner's quota online? or i can just get the tix from the train station after my arrival? can you help me and advise what i've to do to buy the tix?

Train Number Train Name Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Source Station Destination Station Quota Code
4853 MARUDHAR EXPRES 23-01-2006 VARANASI JN AGRA FORT FOREIGN_TOURIST

S.No. Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Class -2A
1 23- 1-2006 AVAILABLE- 0004
2 25- 1-2006 AVAILABLE- 0002
3 28- 1-2006 AVAILABLE- 0003
4 30- 1-2006 AVAILABLE- 0004
5 1- 2-2006 AVAILABLE- 0002
6 4- 2-2006 AVAILABLE- 0004

i wonder if we're on the wait listing, is it possible for us to get the seats confirmed?

question if i've to buy tix from the train stations: i learnt that there's a counter for tourists, is this counter available at some stations in delhi (can you tell me which station(s)) or it's available at any train stations among delhi?

we're both ladies and just would like to know the worst case (maybe it's over-worried and we've paid the hotel in agra already)...we can't get the tix for agra, can you suggest us some backup plans for us to get there safely? will there be any buses for tourist from Varanasi to Agra?

Thousands of thanks!

Gorie from Hong Kong

Yes, You can buy train ticket in foreigner's quota. You may buy it from Delhi and Varanasi station. You have to show the passport and have to pay by $ or Indian ruppe ( with encashment certificate)
Details you may get in this web page

at first i was frustrated with the railways website, but now i learn more and more about this and found it's interesting!

The travel agents also would get the same waitlisted tickets for you!!! They do not have any official quota over what you can book on the internet but you could get the FTQ from any major station like Delhi and get the booking done yourself as the agent cannot do this for you. Why not travel in the other class which will be cheaper and may be possible to get a confirmed seat atleast. Also keep trying on the site you may find that your number might come up in the waitlist if someone cancels their tickets. There are buses from Varanasi to Agra but I would not recommend you to take them!!! They are really very run down buses that are not fit for road travel for foreigners usually used to travelling on buses in most foreign countries. If you see the bus I am sure you will think twice about boarding it!!! Hope you get your train tickets confirmed before you go or atleast they are available when you book at the FTQ counter in Delhi once you get there.

Cheers,
Aadil.

Gorie,
You have two more option.
You can get train from Mughalsarai. 20KM from Varanasi or you can get train to Tundula which is 30 KM from Agra.I don't recomed Bus .
Still if you don't find train ticket to Agra / Tundula from Varanasi /Mughalsarai then yomust go to Delhi and from there to Agra ( last option).

Agree with Indiaguide about the alternative stations.

Indian railways spells the 2nd station Tundla.

Dear vsp27759,

Thanks a lot for yr help.

I went to irctc website once i read yr message and tried to book the SL class tickets. However, i found that i-tickets can only be booked (not e-tickets). I'm a bit confused since I read from IRCTC that both confirmed & RAC can be booked for e-tickets... but it's now at the status "RAC 28/RAC 22"...

For the i-tickets, i understand that the IRCTC needs 2 clear days for the delivery. I've reserved a homestay in delhi so I'll be able to provide it with a local address. If I book the i-ticket now so I'm expected to receive it on 21st. However, I'm arriving delhi from HK on 20th and depart from delhi for Varanasi on 21st. So, I wonder if I can only have our seats up-graded from SL to 2A class with the SL tickets? Or can I just hv them up-graded by showing some sort of forms/ confirmation I got from IRCTC during my online booking?

Actually I thk I've got a wonderful training course on IR here, since I can't get any info about buying tix online from LP / some local bks about india.

Thousand fo thanks!!!

And I hope IM will continue...I love IM.

Dear Gorie,
For your info:-
---------
""6) On e-reservation, however, the ticket will be allowed to be booked only of Confirmed or RAC status accommodation is available at the instant of booking.""
----------
@@@As such, now, that you are still in Hongkong, you can book e-tickets since the status is RAC, ofcourse, but before it gets into Waiting List please!!!!!
----
@@@As you must be aware, if Confirmed/RAC Accomdodation is available, e-tickets can be booked till the work for Final Charting commences, that is, 4 hours before the scheduled departure of the train.

I need to know the name of the Intl Tourist Bureau agent in Varanasi

This is my first time using this program, so apologies if I am writing in the wrong section. I am trying to find out the exact name of the fellow in the Varanasi train station who is always helping foreigners with train issues. We are wanting to bring him something to thank him for past services, and I need to know his exact name in order to fulfill this mission. His family name is Sharma, but I am hoping to find out his FULL NAME, including his initials. Thank you.

Sorry, I don't know his name, but I've seen him at work and he's very helpful.
