I can avail of this quota when i land in Delhi.
The question is how many tickets can i book with this quota on a given train? Only myself or can i also book for my parents?
I need to book 3 tickets on 12554 Vaishali express from NDLS to GKP for 24/4/12 journey. There is FTQ of 4 berths in 2AC.

On another note, the 1AC status for that date is WL1. Looks like there are only 10 berths in that 1AC coach. What are the chances of getting confirmation if i do decide to buy those WL 2-4 tickets?

The other train i can use is 12556 which is pretty much in the same boat.

Thanks

Why not try in general quota where berths are more and so better chances of getting confirmed berths ? You may seek further information on www.irctc.co.in

Hi bond007,
The number of berths for FTQ varies from train to train and class to class.
You can avail this quota for your parents if they have foreign passports because at the time of reservation, the passport number and the country of origin should be mentioned.
Be aware that you must pay with US dollars, UK pounds, Euros, or Indian rupees and an Encashment Certificate if purchasing a ticket there.

I've booked FTQ tickets for other people, but I took their passports with me.

Will you have your parents passports to take with you?

I don't know if a copy of their main passport page (maybe visa page as well), and a copy of their flight tickets would be enough (if they're arriving close to the trains departure time), I've no idea if this would work, but it's certainly something I'd try if need be.

WL 1 & 2 in First Class air con often have a good chance of getting confirmed, WL 3 sometimes, but WL 4 is unlikely to get confirmed.

Thanks All !!

My parents are "pucca" Indians
I was hoping there was some loophole where I can purchase tickets for them under FTQ (along with my own ticket which i know i can). I think it is not possible.

There are 4 2AC berths under FTQ in that train and yes i did already buy confirmed tickets in another train (#15708) which i don't like.

Steve- Maybe i'll buy the 1AC tickets and see what happens (since i have an alternative).

you can check this in e-rail - just switch the quota drop-down on top-right to Foreign before checking availability.

check - http://indiarailinfo.com/train/1711 - it indicates H1 coash meaning total 18 berths in 1A.
fyi - if you see Regret/WL1 for all days, it usually means there is no berths alloted for that class/route/quota & taking a WL tkt might be useless...

This train has 10 berths in 1AC. If i check availability 3 months out, all i see is a maximum of 10 berths available. I would've seen 18 or close to it if there were 18 berths.

My ticket status is WL 1-3.
When i check the next 6 days of status in 1AC of 12554, i see WL 28/9, 9/7, 11/1, 16/7, 17/10. So there is hope for me
I already have confirmed berths in another slower train in 2AC.

Rest assured that there are 18 berths! Of course the fact that 1A is mostly used by free-loaders (read MPs, Rly Officials, Govt officials) at short notice means that significant part of the berths are held under the mysterious quota...
The other reason could be that 10 berths are reserved for your specific boarding/alighting station combination & rest is for others - you would need to check all the station combinations to confirm. But mostly I have seen that general quota is restricted to 5-6 out of 10 in half 1A coach & 10-12 out of 18 in full 1A coach. So there is a good chance of having your berths confirmed if no free-loader turns up at the last minute... Good luck!

Back to the same question...

Some folks mentioned that I can buy more than 1 ticket on FTQ with just my passport (payment in US dollars).

Can anyone else confirm it?
If i did buy 3 FTQ tickets using just my passport, would any documentation be required by the other two passengers travelling with me? How does the TTE verify they are NRIs?

You would need the passport of the other members also to book tickets under FTQ.
