Yes, you are free to go slumming with the riff-raff who are not travelling in 1A.
It's all part of the adventure of travelling!

In 1AC you sit in a coupe with 2 or 4 seats. 2AC is also good and is available on most trains. You have more opportunities to interact with other passengers.

I believe one can move between all the coaches of the air con sections on a train, but the non air con section is blocked off from within the train, one can gain access to that section at platform stops.

In most of the trains that I have been, the pantry coach divides the AC section and the non AC section.

Though what you say is also possible.

It may be that I got confused too, maybe the unreserved section is closed off, rather than all the general sleeper section...

AC compartments are interconnected with a vestibule. Typically there is a pantry car or closed door between AC & non-AC coaches in most of the trains. However, there can be exceptions.

It is a good idea to be back to your seat when you are approaching a stoppage station with some wait time, to ensure full security of your luggage.

Info about a particular train sought :)

Hi there,

Arrive Mumbai on 4 Jan 2019 and was interested in taking the 18520 Mumbai LTT - Visakhapatnam Express ( via Vijayawada) as far as Pune Jct.

Not sure I am a fan of the revamped IRCTC booking page (bizarre order of trains at different times of day, etc.), but find *every* seat in every class is unavailable for my choice of train over the three days that show up.

Now, I know I can take other trains (plenty of availability) from Dadar, but I am still slightly curious that all seats are taken on that particular train ..... am I missing something ??

What do you guys reckon ??

Mark

Possible reason could be that you are looking to book a short distance route on a long distance train. Quota for short distance station is pretty small.

I discovered this when booking our trains for a trip a few years ago. I managed to get tickets by reserving until the next stop which must have been within the minimum distance required for advance booking.

Hi gokarna,

Thank you for your reply ; I have now had a look at this again ...

As you say, getting down at Solapur I could have easily sourced a ticket from LTT on my train of choice and, even though it is 90km further than  my stop (Pune), in sleeper class it would have still been less than I today paid for a cc ticket to Pune from Dadar .....

The example you gave helped me better understand what aarosh was getting at ..... which certainly seems a very likely explanation (and I have learned something useful) !!

Best wishes,,

Mark

That' s true for the train which he wants. If he is going to Pune, then he has a choice of the inter-city trains between Mumbai-Pune. and these are seaters only, and I just checked, tickets are available for the day he wants to travel: TOO many trains or i would have posted them here.

and yes, seats are available in AC Chair Car; Also in 2nd sitting (non AC)

good wishes everybody.

Please check to see if the information is already available on one of the following links.

Usefull trains for tourists

Some trains not in 'Trains At A Glance'
I live in UK but have been to India many times.

Trying to plan my next one using only public transport.

I want to get from Udaipur to Jodhpur by train if possible s the bus takes over 7 hours. I know there is no direct route and can't work out which station I can make a connection at and if this would be quicker. I don't want to go back on my existing route to somewhere like Ajmer / Jaipur
