Hi,

I booked train tickets on Cleartrip a week or so ago for Delhi to Jaisalmer, and our status on Cleartrip is now showing as RAC (RAC-2 and RAC-3), but when I check our status in the India Rail website they show as W/L 3, GNWL and W/L 4, GNWL.

I'm a little confused. We're due to take this train next Tues.

Any suggestions on what is going on and whether it will be fine to board the train? Our eticket will show as RAC, so I figure thats the main thing?

Thanks,
Kate

Hi Kate,

if its showing RAC its RESERVATION AGAINST CANCELLATION,still you will get a seat in the train, but the only thing is you wont get a berth to sleep unless you have a confirm ticket.

GOOD LUCK HAVE A GREAT TRIP....

Regards
Kunal.

Thanks, yes, really looking forward to our travels
I understand what RAC stands for, I was just confused as to why when I log into India Rail with my PNR number it shows us as being WL (waitlisted) still. On cleartrip we're listed as RAC.
This was what I was confused by.
Thanks,Kate

##Whether it is Cleartrip or http://www.indianrail.gov.in/pnr_Enq.html, when the status of PNR is checked, both must display the same status.

Does cleartrip display both numbers?

WL/3 - RAC/2

The first number should always be displayed, that's the position you joined the waitlist, and you need that number to find your berth number.

The 2nd number is your new position, and this is the number that changes.

What is your PNR number?

Hi,
I've done thorough searching on cleartrip and IR to try and work out what's going on, without any luck.
On cleartrip it shows;

Status Seat
RAC RAC-2
RAC RAC-3

On IR it shows;
S. No. Booking Status
(Coach No , Berth No., Quota) * Current Status
Passenger 1 W/L 3,GNWL Confirmed
Passenger 2 W/L 4,GNWL Confirmed

So, this is the dilemma.
Thanks, Kate

@kate, both the sites are showing the same status in different words. Cleartrip says RAC-2 and 3 which means you have got a confirmed seat in the train (reservation against cancellation).

IR shows that you ticket is confirmed. Your seat number will be displayed at the rail station or, I assume you are travelling 2nd class, at the door of your 2AC coach.

That's just as confusing.

Cleartrip showing RAC, and IR showing confirmed.

I've never seen anything like a 'confirmed' RAC ticket, 'confirmed' is only used to show you have the berth you wanted.

Hi,
I hope I don't sound rude - I don't 'trust' anyone on here - in so far as knowing anyone well, I only joined today. I'm a little reserved about posting my PNR number, doesn't that mean anyone could go in and alter my booking?
Sorry for the reservations (no pun intended!), but it's an open online forum, and thus I'm hesitant about sharing too much info.
I'm thinking if my eticket from Cleartrip says RAC then I'm going to go with that, and keep my fingers crossed.

Hi Kate

You are right. In my opinion you need not share the PNR in an open forum. In fact I wouldn't have done this if I were you.

I guess, what steven_ber mentioned is the case.

WL are the ones once you joined the wailist, but RAC is the latest status of your ticket. So you are guranteed a seat, if not a birth.

Other than ClearTrip and Indian Rail, please can you check your PNR in the following portal?

http://www.irctc-pnrstatus.com/

Just enter your PNR in the dedicated space at the top right hand side and submit. See if the result is matching with CT or IR.

Let us know about your findings if required.

That's OK if you don't want to post it. In fact that is the standard advice here or any online forum. Not to post the PNR but instead post all relevant info.
