Hi everyone!!

I am planning a honeymoon to India for November and need to get my accomodation booked now as the hotels I am keen on only have a few rooms!! However, I am planning on taking the train from Varanasi to Agra, and from Bharatphur to Ranthambore.....I have had a look at the scheduled departure for dates up to May (this is as far as it will currently quote....I assume this is because you can only book so many days/months in advance??) and the departure do currently fit perfectly with my plans. Does anyone know if the days/times of these departures would be likely to change for November??

For example, the train from Varanasi to Agra only departs on Thursdays up until May - I can only make this journey on a Thursday night anyway so as it stands this is perfect. However, I am worried that if i go ahead and book the accomodation based on this and then the schedule comes out for November with the train departing on a Monday (for example) then I am a bit stuck!!

Does this make sense?? Basically, the point of all this rambling is that I am wanting to know if that trains always depart on the same days all year round, and whether there is a way to find a timetable online for November?

Also where do you find details of the Agra to Ranthambore (Sawai....) train departures?? I have a rough idea of these from hotel websites and forums like this one as to the timings but it never appears on the indiarail.gov site for me to coraborate....

Apologies for my incesent ramblings, but all help is greatly appreciated!!

Further to the above.....

Does anyone know if the 15:48 train from Agra (arriving Sawai Madhopur at 18:00) operates on Sundays - Kota Janshatabdi 2060? I've read on a hotel website that it doesn't but Cleartrip will let me book it for a Sunday (in 'Second Seating' though and not an 'AC Seat')....

While the new railway timetable does come out in July, it is highly unlikely that changes such as the ones you mentioned would occur. The Varanasi-Agra train's days of operation certainly won't change.

According to the railways website (http://www.indianrail.gov.in/inet_Srcdest.html), the following trains run from Bharatpur (Not Agra) to Sawai Madhopur. I've included only the trains that run at decent times:

12904/Golden Temple Mail/Bharatpur 10.41, Sawai Madhopur 13.03
12060/Kota Janshatabdi/Bharatpur 15.43, Sawai Madhopur 18.02
19024/Janata Express/Bharatpur 17.35, Sawai Madhopur 21.05
12926/Paschim Express/Bharatpur 19.41, Sawai Madhopur 22.00

The 12060 Janshatabdi is a daily train, and has both AC Chair Car and Second Seating.

Thanks aloke_m! That information is really useful and has put my mind at rest a bit!! Any idea how far in advance you can book trains? Would it be in July once the new timetables come out, or is it so-many-days before the journey?

Train tickets can be booked 90 days in advance, unless the train leaves its origin station a day before reaching yours (For example, a train starts from station A on a Monday, and passes through station B on a Tuesday, and you want to board from station B). In that case, tickets can be booked 91 days in advance.

I'm guessing the train you want to take from Varanasi to Agra is the 13239 Express, departing Varanasi at 4.45 pm and reaching Agra at 5.45 am the next morning?

Yes, thats the one I was hoping to take! From what I can gather online it runs on Thursdays only? I wasn't originally planning on using the train for that part of the journey but my first itinerary saw me having a full day to explore the Taj Mahal on a friday, which I understand is the only day of the week that the Taj closes. So I had to have a rethink.....

Well, you're wrong on that, but you might be happy that you're wrong

Your train runs on four days a week; Mon, Wed, Thu and Fri. You can tinker around with your schedule a bit more now.
