Communication Problem when buying E-tickets

Hi All, Last year I didn't have any problems to buy E-tickets, but now in those last days I just have been able to buy 1 ticket after 8 (!) attempts. I'm a registered user and I follow all the rules as I did in the past. Today when I tried to buy more tickets all the time I get the following message:

You Were Trying To Use icici Payment Gateway And The Transaction CouldNot Proceed Due To Communication Problem .

There was a problem in processing the transaction due to one of the following reasons:
 You have used Back/Refresh button of your browser.
 You may have processed the transaction from more than one window.
 Bank has resent the transaction with the same transaction ID.
To check if the ticket is booked, please click on the "Booked Tickets" link on the left navigation. If not booked, you may proceed to book again. If excess amount is found to be debited from your account, the same will be credited back to your account.
We regret that your Transaction could not be processed.

I'm trying to buy tickets with an European VISA card. I've tried the ICICI gateway and the CitiBank, but without success. The CitiBank gateway seems to be even worse, because directly it says that this kind of card is not allowed. Under "Booked tickets" I can't find anything and under "Failed bookings" I just see the attempt when trying to buy with the CitiBank gateway.

Is there any other gateway, which might work for VISA card or even with a VISA ELECTRON debit card?

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally I succeeded

I've tried again and this time choosing HDFC Bank and all went fine. (Surprisingly the ICICI gateway wasn't even visible.) I guess that the IRCTC web page has too many clients and that the server(s) isn't really prepared to handly so many queries. :D

Yours is not an isolated case - I have also had extraordinary problems with the payment gateway (and the whole IRCTC site) in the past few weeks. On one day I had so many failed payments that my bank, fearing fraud, blocked my credit card for all internet transactions for 24 hours; by the time it was unblocked the train I had been trying to reserve was WL only.

On the positive side, I have checked my credit card statement very carefully and not one of those failed transactions made it to my account, so the IRCTC website can certainly be trusted.

This is true. I had a recent transaction get as far as the Verified by Visa password, then fail to return to IRCTC. I thought this would result in a charge, but no - definitely a trusted site!

Despite a few comms problems, I have used the site successfully over the past few weeks, but others seem to have far less luck. Maybe it's down to the time of day?

By the way, I exclusively use the ICICI gateway. I have not tried the others.

lemme just add a bit to the trust factor..i got some tickets booked couple years back from the site. I was using netbanking There was some problem and the transaction failed. However when I checked online statement money was transfered to IRCTC but I did'nt had any confirmation, i called bank people, they said that the problem was at the end of IRCTC and they cannot do anything and money has already been transferred.

I thought that my money was gone, but I still called IRCTC call center and they told me that if transaction is failed that they will refund the money.

And i did'nt expect it, but next day entire amount with the service charges and all was rolled back into my account !!

same issue

Hi,

I've been trying to book a train ride (there's more to come) from Chennai Central to Vasco Da Gama on the 26th Nov 2010. After 10 attempts, I'm giving up. It's always 'Communication Problem' or due to 'NOT'.

Any idea? Is there any other alternative?

Thanks and regards,

You can try cleartrip.com
I've heard favorable reviews from members. I think they may charge a nominal surcharge
