Cleartrip 'not connected to India Railways'- Old Thread

For the past few days now, on searching for a train the Cleartrip website shows.

'We are having problem connecting with Indian Railways reservation system. Please try booking after a while'

I'm in the UK - anybody else struggling with this....?

The past few days there has been work going on in some PRS's to upgrade systems. This has caused some issue with both booking and enquiry at certain times.

Now things are back to normal. Also note Railway Reservation system is shut between 23.30 and 00.30 IST everyday.

Not at Cleartrip, apparently. Still showing the message.
I've emailed them and left a mesage on the forum....

Cleartrip are obviously having major problems connecting to IRCTC at the moment. Not only are people saying it's difficult to book, the forums appear full of people having difficulty cancelling trips. I need to cancel a few trips and have been trying for around 5 days now, but still no luck.

Fingers crossed they get it sorted ASAP, because it's proving a major, major inconvenience for a lot of people and some will inevitably lose out on getting refunds on tickets.

That's a bugger because we found their refund system really good and had to use it a few times when we were in India in December/January. Doesn't seem right that people should miss out on refunds just because their website isn't working.

THE BEST CONNECTIVITY FROM ANY SITE TO IRCTC FOR RAIL BOOKING IS www.thomascook.in I USED TO BOOK TICKETS FROM IRCTC,THEN MY FRIEND TOLD ME ABOUT THOMASCOOK RAILTIKETING FROM IT WAS MORE CONVIENIENT AND THE SPEED WAS GOOD.MY FRIEND TOLD ME THIS WEBSITE IS DESIGNED BY THE SAME PERSON WHO DESIGNED IRCTC'S WEBSITE

Its either that or just an overloading of the site considering that a lot of Indians might be trying to get train tickets for the coming summer Holiday season beginning in April upto June.

Do locals prefer Cleartrip to irctc?

I thought the only advantage was taking foreign card payments

For a lot of people (locals included), its a lot simpler than IRCTC. Also advertising on various media helps which IRCTC doesn't ever do (or feels the need to do).

Indeed. If you take a look at their forum they're pretty much overwhelmed by complaints. As usual they just tell you to give them a call, but that can be very hit-and-miss.

I need to cancel a 'leg' of booked journeys as I decided to head down to Goa rather than the east (needed the R+R cool:  ) but it does mean that I'd like to cancel a few trips. That said, I've got a few days yet before it becomes critical - but yes, not exactly fair if you can't get your money back!

It looks like they have now (belatedly) acknowledged the problem and are working on it.

The problem is not with cleartrip, it seems that all the sites are not working properly. I have tried a few and all the travel agents here in Pushkar seem unable to book online also, so the only option is to go to the station......

Supposedly IR are trying to adjust their system to try and stop "black booking". Maybe the reason all trains are booked up well in advance this year is simply that everybody is booking through the web....

Even erail.in fails on and off and thats just looking for trains...

Narendra and aashu, thanks for the feedback on people within India using Cleartrip. I've always used irctc and just never thought about trying anything else.

There is an article in my newspaper today about irctc's agents being shut out of the system, apparently since March 1st. I don't have any idea if this would affect other internet resellers?

irctc seems to have been in political disfavour since the change of railways minister. The new budget announced a new ticketing portal. stuff seems to be going on [cry]

The agents are not allowed to Book Tatkal from 8am to 9am, when it is opened for everyone. This has been there for a while and applies to other reseller sites like cleartrip/makemytrip too.
While the political lack of support is true, it is clearly a case of a Govt constraining supply, whether it is online access to seats or the seats themselves. Too few seats to meet regular demand, forget Summer peak demand.
