Hi,

I'll be traveling, alone, in June to NZM from MAS. This time, I've decided to take a 1st AC ticket.
I'm confused however as to which train I should take: Duronto or Rajdhani? There are a few areas I felt these trains have to be evaluated on.

1. Time: Both trains have similar timings (Duronto is faster but personally, 20 minutes isn't going to make much of a difference to me. I'm in no hurry.)

2. Coaches: I heard Chennai Duronto has LHB rakes built by RCF, Kapurthala while the Rajdhani does with good ol' ICF makes. Honestly, I've never traveled in a LHB coach so far (let alone travel in 1st AC). Which one is better, comfort wise?

3. Food: I've read rave reviews about 1st AC food on Rajdhani and the royal treatment passengers in Rajdhani 1st AC coaches get. However, there seems to be nothing anywhere about the food quality etc., on Chennai Duronto.

4. Occupancy affecting the service: People are saying since the Duronto runs at a loss (less than 50% occupancy), the service offered is not as good as that on Rajdhani. Reports of stale food being served etc etc.,

Can someone who has traveled on both trains give me some insight so I can book myself a ticket before I get waitlisted?

Many thanks in advance.

It comes down to a simple thing:

Are you conservative (take Rajdhani) or willing to take a chance (Duronto)?

Rather than expecting someone to give a solution, why don't you travel by Duronto and post your experience on IM? If I get a chance to take one of the Duronto's I will definitely post my experience since I have traveled by 1AC Rajdhani.

Cheers

Inspite of having been reported to have Wap 5, Duronto has been reported to run late resulting in late departure of its counterpart.
The food quality of Rajdhani is definitely good. Coach condition of 1AC in Raj is better than that of Duronto.
If you plan to travel in 1AC, my pick would always be Rajdhani.

No no no! The South-bound Rajdhanis (Trivandrum, Bangalore, Chennai)get the most horribly maintained, old rakes. After shelling out so much for 1A, it'll be a very disappointing experience for you. Go for the Duronto.

The question here is about 1AC, and Raj 1 AC's are anyday better than Duronto 1AC.
If it would have been 2AC/3AC, my pick would have been Duronto.
Also, on the contrary if this would have been Delhi bound Rajdhani/Duronto, I would have preferred Rajdhani for 2-3AC, as primary maintenance for most of these Rajdhanis is done at its Southern Base.

All these Rajdhanis (TVC/MAS/NZM) start with the digits '24' which mean that primary maintenance is done at the Northern End, not the Southern base.

I don't know which Rajdhani's 1A you've travelled by, but the SBC Raj (Which shares rakes with the MAS/TVC Rajs) has the most horrible coaches, 1A included. A newer LHB 1A would certainly be preferable.

YEs possible. Since RSA is there between these Rajdhanis, maintenance can be done in the Northern Base.
However, I knew TVC Raj shares it rakes with NZM and Bangalore with MAS.

Do you have a suggestion between 12274 NDLS-HWH Duronto and 12302 NDLS-HWH Rajdhani on 1AC? Or for that matter 12314 NDLS-SDAH Rajdhani also on 1AC? Thanks!

I was on Howrah Rajdhani 1AC this march and it's great! Food was OK but they serve so nicely. It's a lot less tiring than 2AC or Duronto travel.
