AFAIK, KK Express do not have new coaches.
Some of the old LHB Coaches has 54 berths (Like in Mumbai Rajdhani) but these spotting are very rare to find.

Can you please tell me whether all the seats in the coach will be in the same direction or whether half will be towards the way the train travels and the rest opposite?

Hope thread still active! Very helpful indeed.
Just a question please.
Wife and I intend to book side lower and side upper in 2a/c. Feel a bit silly asking this but i really need to. Does the side berth run alongside the window thus when used as a seat during day one will have back to window.Where will the table be? Our train will be the Mandovi Express from CST to Madgaon.
regards.

This is how the side lower and side upper looks like. The backrest can be laid down so that 1 person can sleep below.

Ah! NOW i understand! Does that normally have a table? Are there usually curtains one can draw too if the upper berth was going to be used for a nap during the day?

Is the window normally the same size as the one opposite in 4 berth?

There is no table in side lower/upper. Yes curtains would be there in 2AC. The window size is same as the one opposite.

Do 1a/c have side berths or is it just Coupe? It's just that on the booking system i never see that as a choice.
For example my wife and I are both senior citizens. Is it likely we'd be allocated a Coupe or is it just pot luck.

No side berths in 1AC. Only 4 seater and 2 seater cabins. While booking tickets mention 1 lower berth and 1 upper berth. Normally getting a 2 seater coupe is difficult, however you could try your chances as you both are senior citizens. I believe one IM'er who loves train have got 2 seater coupe a few times and they are also senior citizens.

Hope that he looks at this thread and responds.

Thank you Aarosh. I have found your information excellent. The other reason why I think the coupe in 1a/c or the side berths in 2a/c is that we can stow our own suitcases under our own allocated seats. Pity no table in side berth but i think we could live with that.
The other point is that the Mandovi Express from Mumbai is a daytime running train. The side berths or the coupe would be ideal to just stretch out and get a nap.
Also a pantry car on train which I believe as I have read has excellent catering.
We did consider the JanShatadbi train but it leave much earlier around 5am and from Dadar and not CST. We will be staying in Fort so I guess CST is best. Also no pantry car on JanShatabdi.

I think that aarosh must mean me. For the record only one of us qualifies as a senior (so far).

Over 4 trips we have done 1AC 13 times and got a coupe for ten of them. Three times we were sharing a 4 berth. Once when the train was full of MPs, once when the coupe went to a couple in their seventies and once when there were 8 westerners and 2 Indian passengers booked in 1Ac in HA1. My guess is that age plays a part in how the coupes get allocated as when we have had it the other 1AC passengers looked younger.

That said I have now managed to wean Madame W off 1AC. Unless you are a giant 2AC will be fine for you. I am 6'1" and overweight but had no problem in 2AC.

For a daytime train I would go for side berths in Sleeper these days. Far more entertaining.
