Hi friends,

I have some questions about how to carry my motorbike in the same train in which I shall be travelling. If we are travelling two, then whether the railways will allow our luggage allowance as per booking class or they will charge it full?

regards
Bisa

I looked for info on this at the following site:
http://www.trainenquiry.com/StaticCo...age_Rules.aspx
Here is what it says about free allowance for bikes etc.
Free allowance is not admissible for articles such as scooters, cycles etc.

Yep; there's also more in-depth info on transporting vehicles in this Railways .pdf file, http://www.indianrail.gov.in/Rulesra...arging_bic.pdf.

This ought to be linked to at bottom of their HTML page outlining their general luggage rules, at http://www.indianrail.gov.in/luggage_Rule.html (it's pretty similar to that TrainEnquiry one I think), but I think with their recent overhaul of the site they forgot to add the link. Typical. Maybe someone wants to drop them an email

Your life is made simpler if you are traveling in the same train with your vehicle.

I have transported my bike more than 3 times from various locations. The charges are equivalent of a sleeper class ticket.

You need to take the bike atleast 4-5 hours in advance. Although licensed porters are there, unauthorized parcel folks will only pack your bike and safety of your bike increases proportionately to the money you pay.

For eg, If you pay 500 Rs they will do a Ok packing and if you pay what they ask for, your bike will be taken care nicely and they will push your vehicle as the first one so that its pushed safely inside.

I have traveled with my vehicles and infact removed them from the parcel van and driven them out of the station.

People will tell you that you need to book it days in advance and all. Dont bother. Money talks a lot with Indian railways.

Safety Tips:

1. Dry the complete Fuel from the tanks including the one in carburetor
2. Remove both the mirrors.
3. Remove the side shields if they are unable to pack it properly
4. Tail Lamps and head lamps need more cushioning
5. Give the parcel guys a couple of soft pillows to be tied in the front and the back

Take extra photocopies of your vechicle's RC book. You will need them.

With Warm Regards

Hi bsprasad,

Thanks for the informations. Just want to bother you again by asking another question. Do the railways book the bike after weighing and charge accordingly or they just charge a lump-sum amount fixed for bikes?

No, they don't weigh bike... they'll charge you lump-sum amount fixed for bikes which depends on engine capacity(CC) of bike. For weight they'll just refer RC book of your bike.

You might want to check this thread as well.
