It seems that cleartrip is unable to book trains after January 1st 2012. I've found the train I need available on makemytrip and yarta, but neither will take my US credit card. Help? I've been unable to find any other alternatives, but I'm hoping one of you knows something I'm missing!

Most trains on Indian railways can be booked 90 days in advance, while for some it is 30 days or even 10. The 90 days applies from the Originating station, so you may get to book a day or more then 90 as well if you are booking from an intermediate station.

Also Cleartrip does take foreign cards. So hang on a few days and then book. Pl also note that booking opens at 8am India Time and you will be able to book from 9am india time on cleartrip.

The reason you can book train tickets after January 1st 2012 is that most Indian trains have an ARP (advance reservation period) of 90 days. You can not book them before 90 days from your journey date.

For people outside India, Cleartrip is the best alternative to book train tickets.

Actually, it is 90 days out already for booking for January 2nd, and such bookings are available on both yarta and makemytrip. Cleartrip seems to be the only one with the problem.

Sorry I read it as 12th Jan. You should be able to book them now.

One reason why you probably couldn't might have to do with the time you tried. If the time of your first post is any indication of when you tried, the system is under severe load for tatkal and hence you probably were unable to book. Try to book now. It should be fine.

Tried just now, still no luck. The error is a totally different one than the one I've gotten before, during previous bookings. Usually when it's overloaded, it'll show the trains, but tell me that it can't connect. This time, it says "Aaagh! We couldn't find any trains. This might be because we couldn't find any trains for that route, or because there's no availability on your dates." However, I know this isn't true -- I've been able to see the train on other sites. From the cleartrip forums, it seems I'm not the only one having this problem.

What is your source and destination station? Which class do you want to travel?

I’m trying to book MGS to TDL, departing 2nd January 2012, train 12401 (departing MGS at 22:20, arriving next day at 06:30), AC1 for 2 adults. Cleartrip just said that I should try again in 4 hours (which won't work since it's 1am here, but I'll try again in the morning).

I'm really just hoping that there's an alternative to cleartrip that I can use, since with them, if it's not one thing, it's another. It seems that there isn't, however, so I just have to deal.

I also tried to see if Cleartrip shows train for January 2012. Interestingly Cleartrip does not show any trains for January 2012. It shows all trains till December 31 2011.

You could send a mail to the customer service of Cleartrip informing them about this. See what is their reply.

Have you tried http://www.thomascook.in/tcportal/px....do?url=retail?
It is incredibly slow and complicated, but as I'm facing the same problem tomorrow, I will try this in case Cleartrip is still out...

Good luck and please report back.

I just had a look at ThomasCook. They demand that you are registered by the IRCTC so this will not solve the problem.

Hmmmm, I have an IRCTC account, I just can't use it any more because of the phone number hitch.

On another note, Cleartrip brings up the following message:

Cleartrip’s system is behaving badly

Just like people, our system sometimes has a bad day and gets grumpy. We’re sorry for the inconvenience, please bear with us while we get it to behave.

If you were in the middle of a booking, please do NOT try to book again. You can call us at the below mentioned number and we would be more than happy to help.

Call any time between 7 am and 10 pm India Time on 1860 233 9000 (local call from any phone) for any queries.

So they are aware of the problem and hopefully solving it....

Ha, I did a test booking with thomas cook and stopped just short of entering my credit card details. Now guess what happened: I received a friendly mail, offering to help me as my transaction did not go through! And that within about an hour...

So this may be an alternative to Cleartrip, at least for those who still have an old IRCTC account minus an Indian mobile number.

I wish I had gotten an IRCTC account before the mobile number issue, it sounds like it would've been helpful!

Cleartrip is still not fixed, sadly. Customer support said to try in 4 hours, which was about I hours ago. I'm communicating with them, will keep updating as I know more. I guess I'll have to wait the rest of the day, though, as it is night in India now.
