Traffic commercial Circular No. 46 of IR.

Sub: Five digit train numbering scheme

Five digit train numbering scheme has become necessary in view of the four digit numbering scheme having got exhausted as also the need, to capture the passenger and suburban train services in the COA, ICMS, PRS, and other software applications. The telecommunication equipment available in the country may not be having alphabetical keypads particularly in interior rural areas, and therefore alphanumberic numbering scheme has not been considered.

Here is my query

In above note it is clearly mention that alphanumberic numbering scheme will not be allowed after changing to 5 digit numbering.

As per the circular note there will no alphanumberic numbering in trains after Dec 20. But what will happen to slip route trains which has A or B suffix behind them will that change and if not then how the MAIN purpose of changing Train number can be fulfill.

There are more then 50 slip trains and some also alphanumeric trains in IR will it be same number after Dec 20?

I just check this trains in the link provided by IR to find new train number for slip trains and not a single train number is changing after Dec 20 . All has the same suffix or prefix as on date.

here is the link to check New Number

some of the slip route trains are as follows

I just checked, the slip routes are still showing the same old nos. But the 108S has a new number - I suppose they'll all change slowly by 20 Dec.
