1AC Reservation & Seat Assignment

I recently made a booking from Bangalore to Nagpur and decided to travel 1st class (for a change ). I booked my ticket online and printed it out only to find that there were no seat assignments. The berth number was '0000' for both my wife and I. The ticket does say "CONFIRMED".
Does anyone know what this means? Are the seats assigned before boarding the train on the reservation chart? I would love to get a coupe but I am not what the procedure is.

Cabin/coupe places are decide when the chert is prepared and not before, that's why you just get 'CONFIRMED' on your ticket.

You can go to see the reservations manager at Bangalore City Jn station (or whatever station your train departs from) and apply for a coupe, though there is no guarentee this will work, there is also a chance that you may be given a coupe in any case.

Did you book your ticket by 2649 (or) 2430 (or) 2975?

If you are travelling by 2649 (or) 2430, please PM me your date of departure from Bangalore, because 2975 passes through Secunderabad in odd hours.

By the way, in other trains, namely, 2295, 2578, 2592, 2647, there is no IAC.

The berth shall be given only when chart is prepared !! If you are a young copule then it will definitely alloted to you . On one of my recent trips to delhi in 1st A/C i did some jugaad for getting a copue but then i saw the seats were alloted using common sense !! i suppose all 1st A/C bogies are same it seats 24 which has a configuration of 4 coupes and 4 compartmen s that can seat 4 !!

I booked on 2649 (Sampark Kranti). Any ideas on the food service? I heard this train has a pantry so I assume there shouldnt be any problems.
We are a young couple with a small kid so I plan to take your advise and hope they allot me a coupe.
Btw I got a reply from IRCTC within 4 hours of posting the question to them. Excellent service!

There will be 3 Coupes, each consisting of 4 Berths and 3 coupes, each consisting of 2 Berths in full IAC coach, and the total is 18 Berths.

In partial IAC Coach, there will be Two Coupes each consisting of 4 Berths and One coupe of Two Berths.

So what's the point of getting 1AC tickets if the cabin will include 2 other people (other than the obvious AC)?

I thought there were 2-berth cabins available for couples in 1AC

I've been looking on Indian rail website but couldn't find class/seating info. I've also been reading the sticky threads but it's too much info to get through quickly.

So, can anyone share 1AC class info?

##The berths in IAC are NOT numbered nor will there be any indication whether:

i) you got a UB or LB;
ii)you got the allotment in two-berthed Coupe or 4-berthed coupe.

The exact allotments will be decided during preparation of final charts.

how about the coupe arrangement in a NON AC first class compartment? any idea?

The procedure for allotment of Coupes/Cabins both in IAC and FC is one and the same. If you had exercised your option for COUPE, the same will be "considered" during Charting, though NOT guaranteed till it is "allotted"!!!

I have booked 3 tickets in 1AC for New Delhi(2301 HWH-NDLS Rajdhani Express). I just want to know whether I will get same coupe of 4 berths or not. Because sometimes one person is allotted to another separate coupe. Please, let me know.
