If I drink a Frappucino or any drink that isn't hot at Starbucks will that be risking Delhi Belly? Or does that rule mainly only apply to street vendors?

I say you'd be fine. The delhi belly is a risk whatever you eat or drink. I used street vendors all the time in India and never had a problem. Those fresh orange juices, lassi and chai are great!

Conceptually, just the thought of a Starbucks in Delhi makes me sick

I used to get my coffee - and it rocks! - at the United Coffee House on Connaught Circle.

I know, right?

swill.

the easiest thing to do at Starbucks is to send it back if it's not hot and say "IT'S NOT HOT!" simple!

I never went to Starbucks in Delhi. .. mainly because I couldn't find it. I did go to Costa and café coffee day. I need good coffee to keep my caffeine addiction going.

I will stay away from cafe cofee day. Their coffee is foul, food tasteless and service poor. Tried two in CP and one in Kamala Nagar. They do not have toilets either.

I don't understand how Cafe Coffee Day and its ilk stay in business with those sky-high prices. Like Starbucks in the US, they have branches practically everywhere now, even in apparently not-so-rich neighborhoods. The coffee is just like Starbucks, i.e. mediocre.

Their main utility is as a meeting place.
If you need to meet someone, it is very convenient.
By spending around Rs 200(two cappuchinos) you get to sit in peace for 1 or 1.5 hrs and have your meeting.

That is not easy to find this convenience anywhere else in a busy city.

I wish Coffee Day served chai or even some better tea than they do. They only serve lukewarm water with tea bags on the side - and at least in a recent visit they didn't even give a plate or some surface to put the removed tea bags on - they said just put the (soggy) leftovers on the table as they would have to clean it anyway ... Oh and yes, sky-high prices for that excuse for a tea.

Kristin, come to India, risk the sorts of intestinal-flora disturbances that occur when anybody moves from Place A to Place B (Urumchi to Dresden?) . However, can I suggest you do yourself a favour by making all that travel investment worthwhile? Risk Somewhere-else-Belly with chai, with fresh lime soda, with South Indian coffee, with lassi, with Mangaa, with chiku juice, with indeed any of a number of wonderful drink experiences you can't have at home. Forget Starbucks. Believe me, when you're back home, and REALLY missing India, and you go somewhere and order lassi, you'll go *sigh* not as good as what I had in India .....
