Hey now,
What region did you have this in? Also what was the flavor profile like sweet or salty with or without lemon, or just neutral with light ginger taste? I think narrowing it down some will help find how what you had was made. I did quick search for adrak pani which simply is ginger water in hindi and quite a variety of possibilities came up.

skids thank you for taking the time to look up the ginger drink

It has mild sweet taste and a mild flavour - not tangy - not pungent and color so very refreshing it was in auroville - mostly catering to outsiders i think - looked very easy to make - but ??

No problem, I was just curious as I can't recall such a drink being sold. Hot ginger sure just not cool like this. It sure sounds refreshing.

How about just making hot ginger tea and letting it get cool, or even chilling it. A little experminetation with this utterly simple recipe should get you there, I'd think. I've had it cold, without the lime but with some sugar, with Chinese food, and it was quite nice.

There's a very large number of ginger lemon drinks, available commercially. Most small shops use these, dilute them with water and ice and sell them.

If you look up Lemon Ginger Syrup online you'd find many. We've tried this brand http://www.shreeguruji.com/index.php...n-ginger-syrup and it was good.
