Hey all,

Long time reader, first time poster. In mid-January (assuming my visa gets back to me) I'll be flying into Mumbai for my first visit to India. It'll end up being a two and a half to three month stay, but I'd be interested in meeting up with someone who wants to flail around with me for the first part of the journey. I'm planning on getting out of Mumbai fairly quickly (after a night or two), so I don't blow the meager savings I have, and then working through Goa, with the goal of ending up in Bangalore, where I have a place to stay for a few weeks. It's my first time doing India, and despite all the research--despite feeling pretty prepared and rather competent--I'd love to meet a fellow IMer to help alleviate some of the jitters. If it happens, it happens; if it doesn't, it doesn't. Just throwing it out there.

(Also, my route is less than planned out right now, because I was originally going to do the North--for which I made extensive plans--but have been convinced by parties I trust to do as much of the South as I can while it's "relatively cool").

About me: 26, male, American, friendly, laid back-ish, patient, yadda, yadda, yadda.

About you: Friendly. You could be anything else as long as you're that, too. Oh, and if you've traveled in India before, well, that'd be a plus with the aforementioned jitters. (Certainly not a requirement).

Thanks, too, to all IMers, for your wisdom and guidance in the months I've been reading without posting. You definitely helped convince me that this was a trip I needed to make.

Thanks for the offer and the reply, Surferchick. I'll definitely keep you in mind. I'll probably stay somewhere in Colaba for a few days when I get to Mumbai, for what it's worth. If you want to show a newbie around, I'd be much obliged.

Hey Surferchick,

Can't quite figure out how to PM. I think I read somewhere that I need to make more posts before it activates itself, or something. So I'll try to do that. But yes, I'll keep you in the loop re: my plans, and if you're "in form" it'd be awesome to have an insider's perspective on Mumbai.

Sharad, I'd love to meet up if our dates coordinate. I'll be in Mumbai in mid January for a few days before I head south to a few spots in Goa. Let me know as the date approaches what your plans are.

Rad. Thanks guys!

Cool,
You still have time make a couple of more posts till then ..you are right I tried to PM you and it didnt allow me.
I could have shared my facebook/myspace id's but earlier I made the mistake of doing that once and had half a dozen random people (all guys of course) were sending me friend requests daily ! lol Never again !

Cheers

No worries. I wouldn't want to put my personal info on a public forum, either. At any rate, yeah, I just booked my flight, and I get into Mumbai on the 22nd of January, early early early in the morning morning morning. So, yeah. Ahem. I'm super pumped and super anxious right now, but yeah. Whew. I'm actually just super pumped. Kind of flustered, too, actually. The anxiety hasn't kicked in yet. ("Am I prepared, do I know what I'm doing?"--those kinds of questions aren't quite here yet.). So, whatever, just thought I'd let you know when I'll be in the area. Again, I'll be crashing somewhere (cheap) in Colaba for a few nights before heading south, so, like nights of 22nd-25th or so, I'd wager. Anytime in there, if you want to have a chai and a chat and, like, show me what little I can see in the course of an hour or two, I'd be tremendously thankful for that. Never hurts to have something more than a whim and a prayer to be going on!

Did I already say this trip is going to be awesome?

Because this trip is going to be awesome.

Hey Surferchick,
Yeah. Had a bit of a "Whoa This Is Really Happening" moment on the forum, which makes me look silly, but so it goes. Anxiety, nerves, excitement, all of it comes into play.

Have fun in Goa. Glad you thought the blog was interesting. I've been struggling with stuff to write lately. We'll be in touch if PM ever kicks in.

Cheers, T
