Hello all,

I am looking for a travel companion to explore South India (Kerala/Tamil Nadu/Goa) from Mid-Feb to Mid-March. I've traveled to Mumbai and the northern vicinities a few years back, but have yet to venture south of Goa. I'm a grad student here in New Jersey, so vacation months are few and far between.

Let me know if interested, flexible plans as of now.

Thanks!

Aarti,

Thanks for replying! I think that visiting the south would be great during that time of year as well. I have a tentative itinerary in mind, but we can discuss what works for both of us. My plan is to fly home around March 11th, with a little flexibility with exact dates.

Feel free to email me, and we can get some details set:

Thanks

Hi JerseyTrekker,
I've changed format of e-mail address mentioned as listing it on a public site like this is bound to attract spammers.

Cheska,

I plan to fly into Chennai actually on Feb 12th or 13th and then continue south. I'm definitely keen on visiting temples. I plan to travel until mid-March, but we can travel together for however long you will be in India. I'll post a tentative route soon.

Interested

I am planning to go to India just to backpack around myself between Feb-April and was looking around for partners as well. I can be with you for the whole holiday JerseyTrekker

I had no plan as to where I wanted to go or what I wanted to do exactly. Seen this thread and thought it would be best to post and request a itinerary.

I feel that the more of us which go together, the better it will be and the more fun we will have.

Hi all,

I'm excited that my thread has drawn so much interest. I was out of town over the weekend and just sat down at my computer.

So, I wanted to start in Chennai and end in Mumbai. Let me get a list of places I want to visit together, and I will post that. I'm up for suggestions and spontaneity too though.

Tentative itinerary:

Begin in Chennai on Feb 13th

Chennai to Puducherry (Day trip to Tiruvannamalai)

Puducherry to Thanjavur

Thanjavur to Trichy (Plenty of day trip options nearby)

Trichy to Madurai [ 7th to 8th day ]

Madurai to Kanyakumari

Kanyakumari to Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram to Kochi (Possible to stop in between)

Kochi to Coimbatore

Coimbatore to Ooty [ 14th to 16th day ]

Ooty to Mysore

Mysore to Bangalore

Bangalore to Hampi

Hampi to Goa (Panjim) [ 22nd to 23rd day ]

Goa to Mumbai [ 26th day of trip ]

So this is a rough itinerary, but I did do some research into transportation between these stops and it would work out logistically. If I have a couple travel companions, hiring a car with a driver might also be an option for a part of the journey.

Let me know what you all think. I could see this getting a bit hectic, and I definitely don't want to try to cram too much into a short period. One option I looked into was cutting out Kanyakumari, but I think it would be a neat place to visit for a day. Another option is cutting out the Coimbatore/Ooty portion, and just taking a flight from Kochi to Bangalore, and then visiting Mysore in reverse order.

Aarti, let me know what you think of my plan, I'm open to suggestions

Desi Musafir, having a travel companion would be great, let me know what you think

Christine, Madurai would fall within the first week of the trip, so that could definitely work (maybe hire a car for this leg of the trip if we have enough people?)

Ok, let me know what you think, my email is in an earlier post if you have specific questions
