The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the waqf board, an Agra resident... and now one more claimant pledging to be the true Mughal descendant has emerged from Hyderabad for "custodianship" of India's prized Taj Mahal.

'Prince' Yaqub Habeebuddin Tucy , who says he is the great great grandson of Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar, arrived here Thursday to stake his claim for the famed 17th century monument in Agra as a "true descendent of the Mughal lineage". Full Story

Yaqoub Can Buzzqoab

What a story! We critisize the British for keeping so called treasures and want them to return it and yet we cannot return a family home (lol) to a decendent.

Jokes aside the Taj belongs to the whole of India and not just one dude. Give it up yaqoub, prince or a frog! :D :D :D :D

I'd fathom a guess that the Taj loses money. After all its a govt run enterprise.

The Indian Hotel Company, a Tata Group enterprise, will invest Rs 1.87 crore in the first phase of upgradation of tourist facilities, putting up new lighting system around the monument, development of gardens, cleaning up the surroundings, pathways and the fountains.

Humayun's Tomb in Delhi in under the Oberoi Group of Hotels and the Agha Khan Foundation. Moreover, the Taj Group has been maintaining heritage hotels at Ram Bagh palace and Jai Mahal palace in Jaipur, Lake Palace in Udaipur, Falaknuma palace at Hyderabad and Sawai Madhopur palace at Madhopur.

In the 'City of Djinns' William Dalrymple visited Tarana Begum. She was a very elderly lady by then, who said that she was the last of the line, and just wanted to be left alone, and to be forgotten - rather sad really.
